"Doc" Bryson
operating now as
author
llio dust cover says "Doc Bry-
son is a man of many talents."
Bastrop folks, many of whom
were helps! into this world by
the author, are flocking to buy
autographed copies of Dr. J. Gor-1
f'on Bry son's "Reminiscenses of
a Country IXs-tor." They know
"Doc'' as a civic worker, a
churchman, and a doctor They
are proud to know him as an au- j
thor.
The book, with a delightful in-
troduction by Joe B. FranU of
The University of Texas, carries
the reader from the beginning of
a doctor's career near the turn
of the century through the lean
years ;md the good to tlte deci-
sion to retire. It is thoroughly
entertaining and refreshingly
frank. It is a tribute to a good
lite, well lived.
Dr. Bryson Itegan writing this
book shortly after his retirement
from his medical practice in Bas-
First Methodist

The two-year program of hymn

has been set up by a special
committee under the general
guidance of the Rev. V. Earle
Copes, editor of Music Ministry.
The hymns have been chosen in
relation to the Christian calen-
dar.
All boards and agencies of the
church are being invited to coop-
erate in thus program, and tlte
Bastrop church is one of many
who have already responded en-
thusiastically, according to choir
director, Mrs A. N. Edwards.

Pickle continues
runoff campaign
Democrat J. J. (Jake) Pickle
is continuing his campaign for
Congress with a plea for Central
Texarvs to reaffirm "their historic
support of the Democratic Patry
and its leadership."
"The December 17 runoff elec-
tion is being decided now," Pic-
kle declared. "Absentee voting
is under way.
'"Tlte decision is simply tliis:
Whether this traditionally Demo-
cratic district, with a long record
of party unity, will send a Demo-
crat to Congress to work with the
Democratic adnunistration, or
send a Republican newcomer to
embarrass and obstruct that lead-
ership.
"I have absolutely :.o doubt a-
bout the outcome."
Pickle said his own campaign
is receiving a greater response
than ever before.
"When the runoff election was
set, we had some fear there might
be a light vote—something that
might be an advantage to the mi-
nority party
"Now. in view of the tragedy
that took the life of President
Kennedy and nearly cost the life
of Governor ConnaUy. I cannot
believe there is aputhy or indif-
ference in the heart of any citi-
zen."
"Going to tin" polls." Pickle de-
dared, "ls our way of saying
that we care about our govern-
ment, that we w.uit to share, as
good citizens, in the responsible
conduct and decisions of our gov-
ernment
He reminded that in the speech
he would have delivered in Aias-
tin November 22, President Ken-
nedy spike forcefully about the
ties that link Texas people ami
the Democratic party.
"He culled it 'cn indestructible
alliance' in which the |>oople and
the party are united by a common
history and heritage," Pickle
said.
INolier to DriiKH'rats
If you are interested in the Democra-
tic Party and the Democratic Candi-
date, meet with us at the Court House
