for their annual project of re-
pairing old toys for the under-
privileged at Christinas. They

KTBC Radio and Television
received six statewide awards
from the Texas Association of
Broadcasters during the TAB
Fall convention in Dallas KTBC
Television was presented the
1972 Elkins Educational Award
giv n to only one Texas TV
station annually for outstanding
contributions to the field of
education. KTBC-TV also placed
second in the Investigative
News reporting competition with
the documentary, "UT Austin:
Confidence At The Crossroads."
KTBC Radio received three
first place awards in the top
state categories of production.
These included Best Local Spot
(non-music >, Best Humorous
Spot, and Best Local Public
Service Spot The Austin radio
station received second place in
Best Local Spot (music) com-
petition.

to KTBC president and general
manager, J. C. Kellam, by
Tom Whitehead, Jr., president

Seguin
Sew Fair is a series of four
30-minute educational programs
on the latest sewing techniques.
Sew Fair will be held in the
Oak Park Mall, 1223 East Kings-
bury St., Seguin. The program
will be held twice. The first will
be on November 13th from 7-9
p. m. and the second November
14 from 10-12 a. m.
Tlu' program will include
construction of knit ties, correct
hemming methods, pressing
techniques and pattern altera-
tions for pnnts.
The resource persons who will
be presenting these programs
will be Mrs. Berta Sue Snyder,
clothing instructor, Miss Lay-
neigha Chapman of General
Electric, and two A&M Exten-
sion clothing specialists, Mrs.
Becky Culp and Miss Vivian
Warminski
Door prizes will he given
periodically. Free admission.

Mrs. James Braden of San
Marcos, wis elected president
of the I.ocMnrt Deanery Coun-
cil of Catholic Women, at a
special called meeting, Sunday
afternoon, November 5, held
at St. Mary's Parish Hall, IxK'k-
hart. The meeting was held
following the adjournment of
the quarterly meeting of the
Hockne District Council of
Catholic Women.
The Hockne district is being
divided into two deaneries. The
district formerly comixised of
eight parishes. Hockne, String
Prairie, Smithville, Lockhart,
San Marcos, Barton's Creek,
LaGrange, and Luling, will be
divided and along with other
parishes in the area form the
Lockhart and I aG range
Deaneries, Hockne, String
Prairie, l ockhart, San Marcos,
and Luling will combine with
Kyle, Buda, Martindale, Uland,
San Franclscos Parish, Austin,
and Wimberly to form the Lock-
hart Deanery.
Other new officers elected
were Mrs. Rachael Tamayo,
Lockhart, vice president; Mrs.
Glenn McGee of String Prairie,
secretary, and Mrs. Susie
Cavacoz of Lockhart. Mrs.
Alfred Till of San Marcos, or-
ganization and development
commission chairman of the
Austin Diocese Council of
Catholic Women, presided at
the election of officers.
Mrs. Braden will meet with
the new parishes in the near
future to explain the work of
the Council in the parishes.

Bartsch, Mrs. Herman Goertz,
Mrs. Fred Goertz, Mrs. Leo
Beck, Mrs. Mary Henzen Meuth,
Mrs. Jerry Hilbig, Mrs, Adolph

Mrs. Arthur Goertz, Attending
from String Prairie were Mrs.
Glenn McGee, Mrs. Rudolph
Till, and Mrs. Henry Rabel.
HALLOWEEN PARTY
The youngsters of Sacred
Heart School, were treated to
a Halloween Party, Tuesday
(ictober 31, on the school
grounds from 1 to 3 p. m.
Hosting the affair were the
room mothers, Mrs. Alois
Beck, Mrs. Leon Grohman,
Mrs. B. L. Wendland and Mrs.

SF.F. FILM ON FOREST FIRE
A film on Jeremiah, the
great forest fire, was shown
by Bill Grapher, at the Hockne
•I - H meeting, Wednesday night,
November 1, held in Sacred
Heart School, Hockne. The film
showed how lightning started a
fire which destroyed 130,000
acres, 117 miles of forest,
spread rapidly, and how trained
jumpers finally brought the
blaze under control.
Clark Hilbig, president, pre-
sided at the meeting. Bonnie
Bauer, secretary, read the min-
utes. The club prayer was led
by Katliy Bartsch.

leader, encouraged the mem-
bers to place exhibits at the
Annual 11- 1) Achievement Day,
November 9, at Bastrop. A
special table for 4-II Kxliib-
its will be held.
