Mrs. J. O. Bass, Jr., lives with
her husband and three children on
a farm near Kress, Texas.
Mrs. Bass, formerly Frances
Wilmelh, graduated from McMur-
ry in 1945.
The Basses have three children,
Marie, age 12; J. O., Ill, age nine;
and Betty Ann, age six.
Formerly from Plainview, Mrs.
Bass was a member of the Wah
Wahtaysee while attending Mc-
Murry.
McMurry 1950 graduate Bill
Campbell is practicing law with
Murfee & Campbell in Houston.
His wife, Betty Lynn Gallin
Campbell and a 1959 graduate of
McM is employed as school teach-
er in Houston.
Campbell graduated from the
University of Texas Law School
in 1958, where he was vice-presi-
dent of mid-law class; vice pres-

ident of Student Bar Association;
member of the Board of Gover-
nors for two years; and first place
winner of Mid - Law Scholastic
Achievement Award.
Campbell served in the Army
Medical Corps in Tokyo, Japan,
in 1951 and 1952 and taught phy-
sical education in Snyder, Texas,
from 1953 until 1955. He is a na-
tive of Slaton.
A 1959 graduate of McMurry,
Jonnie Hutchens Merrill is sec-
retary for West Texas Utilities in
Abilene. Her husband, Charles M.
Merrill who is a 1955 graduate of
Texas University is now a geolo-
gist for Pan American.
Mrs. Merrill, a native of Goree,
was a member of Delta Beta Ep-
silon, Alpha Chi, Kappa Delta Pi,
and NEA. Her mother and sister,
Ruth and Brenda Hutchens, are
now freshmen at McMurry.
Albuquerque, New Mexico, is
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Roland
H. Carlson. Mrs. Carlson is the
former Martha Cribb and is a
1951 graduate of McMurry.
Mrs. Carlson is a laboratory
technician and her husband works
for Sandia Corporation as a re-
search engineer. He received his
BS Degree from Michigan State
University and his MA Degree
from the University of Illinois.
A native of Tatum, N. M., Mrs.
Carlson was a member of the
Band, T. I. P. social club, and
Science Club. Her honors includ-
ed sophomore favorite, campus
queen, and Who's Who.
Eldridge F. Trott, 1946 graduate
with a literature major, writes:
"Have been publisher of the lo-
cal newspaper (Lincoln, Califor-
nia) for 11 years. Otherwise a
family of six children provides us
with main excitement in life. Our
paper this year won second place
in statewide competition in week-
ly field for a special issue we
printed in conjunction with city
centennial observation."
Trott, a native of Loraine, Tex-
as, and his wife Lois' children are
Barbara, age 13; Kenneth, age
eight; Beth, age six; Roger, age
three; Gregory, age two; and Jeff-
rey, age seven months.
Trott, a journalist enthusiast,
went to Missouri University for
his BJ Degree chiefly because of
interest shown by Miss Jewel
Posey and Miss Julia Luker while
he attended McMurry.
Mrs. Trott, a native of Kansas,
attended Phillips University in
Enid, Oklahoma, and the Univer-
sity of Missouri.
Mr. and Mrs. William C. Bybee
reside at 8623 Glenlea in Houston.
They are the parents of one child,
Luretta, age three. Mrs. Bybee is
the former Helen Hollowell, who
was a member of T. I. P. social
club while attending McMurry,
1952-53.
The Bybees attend the Park
Place Methodist Church in Hous-
ton. Their pastor is Rev. W. A.
Hawthorne, father of Bill and
Becky Hawthorne who attended
McMurry during the same years
that Mrs. Bybee was on the res-
ervation.
Rev. and Mrs. Alvin G. Smith
are living in Hereford where he
is pastor of the Wesley Methodist
Church. Mrs. Smith, the former
Jimmie Louis Davis of Lamesa,
graduated from McMurry in 1952.
Rev. Smith attended McMurry in
1955-56 and graduated from West
Texas State College in January
of this year.
The Smiths have one child,
Melody Guylene, age seven
months. Mrs. Smith was a mem-
ber of Volunteers and Chanters
and was freshman representative
to the Student Council at Mc-
Murry.
Abilene is the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Leo Petty and their daugh-
ter, Laura Lynne, age nine
months. Mrs. Petty is the former
Lynne Byerly who attended McM
in 1958.
She was a member of Chanters
and is a native of Rotan.
MRS. ALVIN G. SMITH
PAULA CANTRELL
Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Cantrell
live on a ranch near Kemper,
Texas. Mrs. Cantrell is the former
Kone Baze of Lamesa, who at-
tended McM in 1938-40. The cou-
ple has one child, Paula.
Mr. and Mrs. Richard H. Isen-
hour recently moved into a new
home at 6 Murphy Ct. in Browns-
burg, Indiana. Isenhour, who at-
tended McM '48-'49, owns and op-
erates a dry cleaning plant in
Brownsburg. Mrs. Isenhour, the
former Joyce Daniel, attended
McMurry from 1947 to 1949.
Isenhour is youth superinten-
dent of the Calvary Methodist
Church and she is secretary of
literature and publication for the
WSCS.
The Isenhours have three chil-
dren, Kathryn Adele, age nine;
Melinda Louise, age five; and
Elizabeth Anne, age nine months.
Isenhour played basketball with
the Indians at McMurry.
Science Board Names
Dr. Bottom For Program
Dr. Virgil E. Bottom, professor
of physics, has been selected as
one of approximately 50 scientists
from Texas colleges, universities,
and industrial laboratories to
serve on the 1959-60 visiting sci-
entist program of the Texas Acad-
emy of Science.
The program, which is spon-
sored by the National Science
Foundation, is intended to help
to improve quality in science and
mathematics in the state by mak-
ing available to high schools at
no cost to them the services of
professional scientists to discuss
our current knowledge in scien-
tific fields.
The titles of Dr. Bottom's lec-
tures will be "Time and Its Meas-
urement," "Recent Developments
in Solid State Physics" and
"Piezoelectricity."
Dr. Bottom, who is a graduate
of Purdue University, is a con-
sultant to the Department of De-
fense in the field of frequency
control devices, and is chairman
of the Working Group of the
Advisory Group on Frequency
Control Devices. He is also a con-
sultant to the National Bureau
of Standards.
Four McMurry students recent-
ly attended the Collegiate Sci-
ence Research Conference in Lub-
bock, sponsored by the Texas
Academy of Science.
They were Lyneve Chapman of
Abilene, Eddie Massey of Cana-
dian, Scotty Arnold of Merkel,
and Elroy Neie of Plainview.
ANNUAL OBSERVANCE

signed a contract to establish Mc-
Murry College.
Dr. Hunt, who became the first
president of the college, declared
that day as the official beginning
of the school. Classes began on
the Reservation in September,
1923.
Dr. Hunt promoted the found-
ing of one of the leading Chris-
tian institutions of higher learn-
ing east of the Rockies and west
of Dallas. It was the foresighted-
ness of the men who had headed
Stamford College, Clarendon Col-
lege, Seth Ward, Belle Plain,
Western College of Artesia, N. M.,
and the Dallas Institute which
brought about the organization of
the college.
McMurry and supporters have
an added interest this year. The
debts of the Cooke Liberal Arts
Building were completely paid
this spring.
The McMurry College plant
now consists of the Administra-
tion Building, McMurry Gym,
Bailey Halls, President Hall, Gold
Star Dormitory, Iris Graham Din-
ing Hall, James Winford Hunt
Memorial Dormitory, Radford
Student Life Center, Cooke Lib-
eral Arts Building, William C.
Martin Dormitory, and the Mc-
Murry Band Hall, which was
completed during the past year.
Plans for future buildings of
McMurry include a science build-
ing, a liberal arts building, a sep-
arate library, and a physical edu-
cation plant.
