25 Per Ct. Die
Violent Death
Large Number of Murder And
Suicides Here During The
Past Five Years
Of a grand total of 2,982 per-
sons who have died in Tarrant
county since the beginning of
the death record, May 1, 1903,
333 have been violent deaths,
and of this numBiBf eighty-two
have been suicides.
In forty-five cases the records
are not clear as to the person or
persons causing death, merely
o - any other cause. Tnere were
fo?ty-five deaths by varions

tentional, where the implement
of death was in the hands of the
person dying or another human
being. There were forty-three
cases where the verdict of the
coroner has been murder, either

two were suicides.
In the cases of murder nearly
all were shot, either with a shot-
gun or pistol. A very few were
killed by stabbing, the" number
who thus died however being but
four according to the records.
Of the suicides the records tell a
strange story.
A total of thirty-six persons
used some sort of poison to end
their lives. Of this number sev-
enteen used the deadliest and
most terrible of all poisons, car-
bolic. acid, in destroying them-
selves. Of the balance, nine us-
ed morphine, 9ix us^d strychnine
two used arsenic, one rough on
rats and one used laduanutn.
Death by poisoning therefore
seems to be the preferable way ; of che head biown off" or "brains
of ending one's existence, and ;biown out," with grewsome de-
saying the person came to his" tail.
