"Continue Lulac's Progress"
John J. Herrera
For Lulac National President
Santa Fe, New Mexico
June 12 -14, 1953
Dear LULACS:
During the next few days you will be selecting your delegates for the National
Convention of Lulac in Santa Fe, New Mexico. We hope all of the councils will be fully,
or at least partially represented in this, our greatest convention in Lulac history. In
the past our small councils have taken the lead in the formation of policies and the
election of our National Officers. The small councils have truly been the backbone of
our League and although we are one of the councils with a "7 Delegate" member-
ship, we hope the small councils will continue to exert their influence at all Lulac Con-
ventions. Their voices and votes, though they may appear weak and small, can in a
united effort swell to a mighty roar of decision, and thereby guide the destinies of the
League to new paths of promise and hope.
LULAC'S MAN OF DESTINY
As Lulac goes into it's 25th year of existence, we find as National President a
man who without relative fanfare, has in 11 short months rallied you into making Lulac
a formidable giant of an organization. THINK OF IT! 23 NEW SENIOR LULAC
COUNCILS EIGHT IN NEW MEXICO; 15 IN TEXAS: NINE IN LOCALITIES NEW
TO LULAC AND IT'S AIMS AND PURPOSES! All of this and FOUR NEW JUNIOR
LULAC COUNCILS TOO!
Our National President will report in spite of thousands of miles traveled and
much money spent, and the great growth of Lulac, A. TREASURY ALMOST THREE
TIMES RICHER THAN WAS TURNED OVER TO HIM IN JUNE, 1952.
HE RE-NEWS HIS SOLEMN PLEDGE TO YOU IN LULAC.
Brother John J. Herrera in accepting the nomination for National President of
Lulac, has re-newed his solemn pledge to give this task, if re-elected, his continued
whole hearted devotion and attention; pledging further to fulfill the responsibilities
and principles of this high office with unremitting zeal and impartiality.
All of you have read or heard the story of Johnny's life, a man who in the best
spirit and tradition of our people refused to recognize, hardships, handicaps, obstacles
or adversities. Johnny's life, coupled with his work in Lulac is legion and inspirational.
HIS RECORD SPEAKS FOR ITSELF!
THE QUESTION: WHO CAN DO MOEE FOR LULAC?
In the election of our National President and National Officers, it would be wise
to decide this issue: WHO CAN DO MORE FOR THE LEAGUE? We cannot do this
by the fact that one locality has had seve ral National offices, but by the only DEMO-
CRATIC PROCESS, WHO CAN DO MORE FOR THE LEAGUE? Depriving a good
proven man from re-election to an office simply because he lives in a certain area, and
regardless of his personal qualifications is not in harmony with our LULAC CODE
AND CREED.
