Lake Bastrop
Fishing Report
Lake Bastrop on a foggy day.
Lake Bastrop
The lake opened in 1965 as a power plant cooling
pond. Lake Bastrop is known for its population of large-
mouth bass. The lake's parks are operated by the Lower
Colorado River Authority.
Phone: 303-7666
Size: 906 acres
Maximum depth: 60 feet
Normal water clarity: clear to slightly stained
Predominant fish species: largemouth bass, catfish
and sunfish
Entry fee: Day use fees at both the North Shore Park
and South Shore Park are $3 for persons age 13 to 65.
Children under 13 are free and seniors over 65 are $2.
Directions: South Shore Park's entrance is off Texas
21, roughly three miles east from Bastrop. North Shore Park is off FM 1441. To get to North Shore Park, take
Texas 95 north to FM 1441, go east two miles to entrance.
Boat ramps: There are boat ramps at both parks.
Camping: North Shore Park has a fishing pier and boardwalk, a pavilion, restrooms, picnic sites and 21 RV
hookups. RV hookups are $15 per day at 30 amps and $17 per day at 50 amps. Sewer hookups at North Shore
Park are $20 per day.
South Shore Park offers 38 RV campsites, an observation deck, hiking trails, restrooms, showers, dump station, a
playground and facilities for boating and fishing.
Six mini cabins are available for $35 at South Shore Park.
Fishing regulations: Use of juglines, throwlines and trotlines is not allowed in Lake Bastrop. There is a 14- to
21-inch slot limit on largemouth bass. Bass 14 inches and less or 21 inches and over may be retained, but only
one bass 21 inches or greater may be retained each day. Bass within the 14-21-inch slot limit must be released.
All other species are managed with statewide regulations.
Angling opportunities: Lake Bastrop is a high-quality bass lake. It has been heavily stocked with Florida large-
mouth bass. The TPWD statewide annual tournament survey in 1997 ranked this lake second only to Fayette
County, using quality indicators like average weight and bass caught per hour. However, it is not noted for produc-
ing trophy size bass. Channel, blue and flathead catfish have also been stocked. Channel catfish are abundant,
with best angling in the spring and early summer before the vegetation interferes with bottom fishing.
Things to know: Fishing license required for those fishing. Children 13-under must wear a certified life vest while
boating.

Bastrop ISD
Board of Trustees Place 4
Vote Today
May 10, 2008
My name is Rene Barrientos and I'm mnning for re-election for Place
4 on the Bastrop ISD Board of Trustees. I have been honored to serve
on the school board for the past 3 years, and with your help, I hope to
continue to serve for 3 more years.
I was bom and raised in Austin, and my wife and I moved to Bastrop in
1981 after we were married. Bastrop is the place that we chose to raise
our two children - Brittany and Nicholas. Brittany is a Bastrop High
School graduate and Nick graduated from Genesis High School. Brit-
tany chose to continue her education and Nick graduated a year early and
entered the work force.
Everyday, someone asks me why I'm running for re-election. I have no
hidden agenda. Hie truth is, serving on the board is my way of paying the
school district back for educating my kids.
Hie school board is comprised of 7 individuals - each one brings his or
her own expertise and experiences, and each member of the board has a
vote. I don't pretend to be an expert in every area of school district busi-
ness, but I do my best to ask questions and educate myself until I frilly un-
derstand the issues brought before the board. I have always voted based
on what I believe to be in the best interest of the students. The public does
not always have all of the information that the board is privileged to, and
I understand that some of the decisions that we make may appear ques-
tionable. But I assure you that I do my best to gather as much infomiation
as possible before making my decision. I always keep in mind that I was
elected to serve on behalf of the students and citizens, and I have or never
will compromise the trust of the community.
I am extremely proud of some successes of the district since I began serv-
ing 3 years ago. With a lot of assistance, we were able to pass a bond
election for the renovations and additions to the Bastrop High School.
The project was completed in 2007, and the high school looks amaz-
ing. Many students from the high school have expressed their pride in
the newly renovated school. Also in 2007, the district was finally able to
pass 3 historic bond propositions - a new high school in Cedar Creek, a
new perfomiing arts center, and a multi-purpose athletic facility. These
facilities are long overdue for our rapidly growing school district, hi ad-
dition to facilities, I am proud of the boards' commitment to technology.
We have provided students in grades 5-8 with laptops and teachers with
21st Century teaching tools. I am also proud of our teachers' pay scale,
and hope that we can continue to be competitive with teacher's salaries to
keep our quality teachers.
My proudest moments of serving on the board these past 3 years lias
been handing the graduates their diplomas and shaking their hands as
they cross the stage on graduation night. That's when I'm reminded of
why I volunteer my time to serve on the board. I am asking for your
continued support on Saturday, May i Otit.
