XIII. COUNTY BOARD OF SCHOOL TRUSTEES
In 1845 management of the county schools became the responsibility
of the county governing court, and so remained until it passed to a separate
board of school directors in 1873.2 The board of directors was
abolished in 1876, and from that time until 1911, duties involved in the
supervision of county schools were divided between the county judge and
the commissioners court.3
The present central board of school trustees was created in 1911,4
and has served in Caldwell County since September of that year.5 It is a
corporate body, and has general control of the schools of the county.7
There are five county school trustees, one elected from the county at
large, and the other four from their respective commissioners' precincts;
their term of office is 2 years.8 The county school superintendent is
secretary of the board.9
