Winter 2009
Stephen B. Kinslow, Ph.D
ACC President & CEO
TIME Magazine profiled ACC in the
article "Can Community Colleges
Save the U.S. Economy?" (July 20,
2009). Community colleges are
making headlines as financially
strapped families and displaced
workers drive record enrollments
nationwide. One of the best kept
secrets in higher education is
getting out.
ACC is the
number one
choice for the
majority of area
high school
graduates and
adults. This fall,
enrollment
skyrocketed,
surpassing 40,000 credit students.
Affordability is one factor, but most
choose ACC for the quality education
and many options we offer.
The college boasts more than 200
certificate and degree options that
give our students the edge in high-
demand careers. TIME featured
ACC's Renewable Energy Program.
Our Fire Academy just dedicated a
state-of-the-art new facility in
partnership with the Austin Fire
Department. And the ACC choral
program will perform at Carnegie
Hall next spring.
While many come to ACC to
complete workforce training or
earn an associate degree, ACC is
also the primary source of transfer
students to area four-year
universities such as the University
of Texas and Texas State, where on
average our alumni perform as well
as or better than students who
begin at a four-year institution.
Discover ACC for yourself. We're
here for you, your family, and the
business community.
Austin Community College trains students to save lives,
ACC is the primary trainer of first responders in Central Texas, educating
firefighters, nurses, EMTs, and others on the front lines of emergencies. ACC's
Fire Academy is now training cadets on the same grounds as the Austin Fire
Department's academy And once again, 100% of ACC cadets passed the state
exam, demonstrating they have what it takes to serve their communities and
save lives. To read more, visit austincc.edu.
40,000+
CREDIT STUDENTS
Enrollment breaks records in fall 2009 as the college
grows by nearly 4,500 students, a 12 percent increase
over last year.
$39
IN-DISTRICT TUITION
ACC holds tuition at $39 per credit hour for students
in the tax district.
42%
TRANSFER BOUND
ACC is the primary source of transfer students to the
University of Texas and Texas State. Students start at ACC
for the quality, affordability, and transferability of courses.
ei ght
CAMPUSES, FALL 2010
ACC is building its eighth full-service campus, which
will open next fall, in newly-annexed territory within the
Round Rock Independent School District.
$0.0946
TAX RATE
ACC reduces its tax rate for the fourth straight year
to 9.46 cents per $100 valuation, costing the average
homeowner less than the price of a 3-credit hour course.
The state average tax rate is 15 cents.
100%
STATE EXAM PASS RATE
FOR FIRE CADETS
ACC gets an "A" in licensure pass rates. For the third straight
semester, 100% of ACC Fire Academy cadets passed the state
exam. Registered Nursing boasts at 98.6% licensure pass rate.
And ACC's Accounting Program again ranked among the top
ten Texas universities on the CPA exam.
