SILVER ANNIVERSARY OF THE
DALLAS HEW
The greatest newspaper in the
Southwest, the Dallas News, cele-
brated its 25th Anniversary by the
publication of veritable compendum
of progress both of the city in wnich
it makes its home and the state that
has made the success of the News
possible.
The Census Bureau has settled
lor the next decade the vexatious
question of which is the largest city
in Texas, the reports showing that
San AntoAio retains its lead in piopu>
lation wifh Dallas exchanging sec-
ond place with Houston and the
Bayou city taking third position;
Fort Worth occupies fourth place
and in percent of increase in popu-
lation over the last census takes first
position in cities of its class. There
has been a phenomenal increase in
all figures so far made public.
The show came, they saw, and
the small boy with bis dad was con-
quered.
There is no use to cry over "spilt
milk", better "lick the skillet" and
stay at home.
Othsr Paahaodls tow will join
la tha exhibit, and it is proposed to
•hip all the stuff to Amarillo where
Um Santa Fe officials will take
charge sod DH ths satire lot to
Chicago.
Thsre Is always the objection to
joining with Amarillo in an exhibit.
Their big sign "T h e Amarillo
Country" usually gets the loftiest
place, but we are promised that the
big sign over the exhibit booth shallbe
«'THE PANHANDLE OF TEXAS."
And that each exhibit shall be plain-
ly marked with *the name and ad-
dress of tne farmer who grew it. No
realestate firm will be permitted to
make exhibits in their name.
T. B. Gallagher, Assistant Trav-
eling Passenger and Freight Agent,
will see that each town and keach
farmer is represented, and will have
charge of the booth at Chicago.
Now this looks good to tha Brand
and Hereford will have a fine ex-
hibit ready.
Let the farmers around Hereford
and in Castro join in in sending up a
fair showing. If you have some-
thing good or extra good, save the
samples, selecting enough to make
a good showing, and bring them in.
Leave the samples at the Brand
office.

Texas a Great Health Resort.
"I spend my summers in Texas,"
said J. B. Johnson a wealthy mer-
chant of Ann Arbor, Michigan, to a
representative of the Texas Com-
mercial Secretaries Association in
one of Texas' health resorts yester-
day. "I pass a great many Texas
citizens goingjnorth to spend their
vacations and I marvel at their pre-
ferance. I do not see how any man
who has lived in Texas can voluntar-
ily leave it for another state or
country. The delightful nights af-
ford a splendid respite against the
noon days sun while in the north the
temperature is equaiy as 'oppressive
during the day and the nights afford
no relief. The cool gulf breeze
tempers the sun's rays and'^sooths
and quiets the overworked nerves, j
In tact, the stale is a natural sani-
tarium.
"Then the watering places possess
remarkable curative powers o r
most every disease the'human flesh
is heir to; the fish and |powers |are
abundant and all out|doorJsports are
well patronized; ^amusements are
refined; society is cultured and mag-
nificent sermons are preached from
the pulpits on Sunday. Texas is
not only a state of great^industrial
opportunities but it is a good place
to live," said the merchant from the
badger state.

An effort is being made to send
