Here's to our visitors; "You'll
Like Hereford!"
Visitors, if you don't see what
you want, ask for it.
Hkikfokd is not a ''dry" town—
there is plenty of water to drink.
Water, Soil and Sunshine—these
three and they are all the greatest
at Hereford.
One million eight hundred thou-
sand gallons from one well in one
day. *
don't get in a hurry to leave to-
morrow (Saturday) night. The ex-
cursion train will not leave until
eleven o'clock.
Letters from many of our north-
ern subscribers ordering extra copies
of the Special Irrigation Edition
ihow that they are helping advertise
the great Hereford Country.
Oceans of pure water,
Acres of fertile soil,
Skies of bright sunshine,
is a combination not found every
where, but all are in easy reach at
Hereford.
There are no ••Nockers" in Here-
ford—they are all dead and gone.
The last one fell in a well and was
drowned head fo'most. If our visit-
ors find a single one the committee
will hold him (Hinder the spout of
the big McDonald well.
The Brand wishes to thank its
exchanges and many other papers
who were so courteous as to comply
with our request to publish the arti-
cle advertising the I. O. O. F. meet-
ing and the Water Carnival being
held at Hereford the last three days
of this week. The Brand trusts at
some future date to be able to return
the favor.
Our merchants and business men
deserve much credit for the many
handsome windows they have
"done" in honor of the Odd Fellows,
the Rebekahs aod the Carnival vis-
itors. Many are elaborate in design
and tastefully decorated. And we
believe the time and energy thus
spent in courtesy to the strangers
within our gates is duly appreciated.
The compliments The Brand has
received on its Special Irrigation
Edition thru the press, by letter and
by telegram is gratefully appreciat-
ed and leaves us considerable puffed
up. We thank all and wish to say
that we feel that our efforts have
been appreciated by the brethern of
the press and that it was worth
while.

OH ADVERTISING.
' There's nothing no earth so mys-
teriously funny as an advertisement
The prime, first and last and all the
time, objects to an advertisement is
to draw custom. It is not and never
will be, designed for any othef pur-
pose. So the merchant waits till the
busy season comes and his store is
so full of customers that he can't
get his hat off, then he rushes to his
printer and goes in for advertising.
When the doll season gets along ang
there is no trade and he wants to sell
his goods so bad he can't pay his
rent, he stops advertising. That is,
some of them do; but occasionally a
level headed merchant does more of
it, and scoops in all of the business,
while his neighbors are making
mortgages to pay the gas bill. There
are times when you couldn't stop
people from buying everything in
the store if you planted a cannon be-
hind the door and that's the time
when the advertisement is sent out
on its holy mission. It makes light
work for the advertising, for a chalk
sign on the side walk could do all
that was needed, and a half holiday
six days in a week; but who wants
to favor an advertisement? They
are built to do hard work, and should
be sent out in dull days, when a cus-
tomer has to be knocked down with
hard facts, and kicked insensible
with bankrupt reductions, and drag-
ged in with irrestible slaughter of
prices, before he will spend a cent.
That's the end and aim of advertis-
ing &nd if ever you open a store,
don't try to get them to come when
they are already sticking out of the
windows, but give them your adver-
tisement right between the eyes in a
dull season and you will wax rich
and own a fast horse and perhaps be
able to smoke a cigar once or twice
a year. Write this down where
you'll fall over it every day. The
time to draw business is when you
want business, and not when yon
have more business man you can
tend to already.—Midland Reporter.
I'll meet you at
Store.

School Graduates Get Diplomas.
Eight young people received their
certificates of graduation from the
Hereford High School last Friday
night at the court house where a full
and crowded house had assembled
to do honor to the occasion.
The program as published was
carried with one exception. Prof.
Marquis, one of the Canyon Normal
teachers, delivered the address in-
stead of Pres. Cousins.
Miss Meda Woodburn, daughter
of E. T. Woodburn, read the saluta-
tory for the class. Her paper show-
ed careful preparation and it was
read with good effect.
The class history was read by
Miss Edna Fuqua, daughter of Mr.
aod Mrs. J. L. Fuqua. Her psper
was well written.
Miss Artibel Givens read the
valedictory which was well received.
Prof. Marquis' address was along
the usual line of commencement
speeches. He is a fairly good talker
for a young man. /
The rolls were delivered by Rev.
S. T. Shore, who made a short talk
to the members of the class.
Those who received certificates
were : Bess bisk, Meda Woodburn,
Irene Williams, Enid Smith, Artibel
Givens, Donna Lancaster, Edna
Fuqua and Jess Buckner, the only
boy in the class of 1911.
At the close of the exercises the
friends came forward to congratulate
the girls and the only boy.
