County Judge Megert and the County
School Fair Committee of the dumber
of Commerce recently appointed to ii-
•1st In making the Fair a success, held
a meeting Monday night to discus*
ways and meant. The committee con-
stats of C. O. Lee. chairman. E. W. Har-
rtaon and W. H. Bteckman. Previous to
the meeting Jifdge Megert and Mlsa
Griffith, anperintendent of school*. had
held a conference on the *ubject.
It wa« decided Mouday night to hold
the Fair and the County interscholastic
meet on Friday and Saturday, April
7-8. Thin 1m J tint a short time before
the district InterecboUstie meet at
Canyon to lie held on April 21-22. and
will enable the wluncr* of the varlou*
conteati in this county to go to the Can-
yon meet.
It was decided to try out a sugges-
tion that an Auction Sale of merchan-
dise be held on both days, merchant* of
Hereford to contribute each some stan-
dard article to be put up at auction.
The idea la that thin will aid in adver-
tising the Fair, will draw a better
crowd, and at the same time help the
merchants too. The committee will
canvass the merchants and see if the
plan can be worked out.
Arrangement* are to be made at once
to construct frames for the school
booths In the basement of the CourJ-
houae where each school or grade ran
hare Its own display of school work.
Last year's Fair demonstrated what
can he done along this line and much
interest and keen rivalry is now la evi-
dence over the county in preparation
for the contests.
The high school authorities have la
charge the matter of the athletic con-
test. which will he Mtaged these two
days in determining what representa-
tives will compete at Canyon. Taken
all In all the Fair Is coming along nice-
ly and promise# big thing* for April.
Concerning the Interscholastic Lea-
gue District Meet at Canyon. The
Brand is in receipt of the foiiowiug:
"Judging from the uunil>er of iruiulr-
iea being made at the office of the IM*-
trict Director General for the Inter-
scholastic League, it appear* that an
unusually large number of schools are
grooming their student* for the County
Contests which are to be held prior to
the District Meet April 21-22.
"For the moat part there ha* been
Improvement made in the preparation
Of pupils for the various county contest.
When the Leagun wa* first organized,
the teacher* never tiegan their work
with the children until a few weeks be-
fore the contest* i* becoming a regular
part of the school work, and well work-
ad out plan* are made months in ad-
vance. This Is a commendable feature
and should be universally adopted
among the school*."
