Post Special Services has i-
nounced that James C. Summey
known to his millions of Grand
Ole Opry fans as "Cousin Jody"
will appear in two shows here
tomorrow.
Cousin Jody and his troupe the
Country Cousins will first appear
at Fiddlers' Green Service club
from 7:00 to 8:00 p. m. At 8:30
they will move to the Academic
Service Club where they will play
a dance.
Cousin Jody's major stage
prop is his steel guitar which
for years he has referred to
as his biscuit board.
Jody was born in Possum Hol
low near Sevierville Tenn. a
respectable number of years ago.
Like most of his contemporaries
he has been playing since early
childhood.
His first radio appearance was
with Hugh Cross at radio station
KNOX in Knoxville Tenn. To
give a rough idea of the date of
these early performances KNOX
carried all of 250 watts power.
He next went out on his own
originating a daily radio variety
show called the Mid-Day Merry-
go-Round. The live audience at
tending these shows grew so large
that the Mid-Day Merry-go-
Round changed studios three
times to accomodate the long
entrance.
Between radio shows Jody play-
square dances and small clubs
around Knoxville. A short time
later he joined Roy Acuff a local

Soon after he left Acuff to
team with Pee Wee King and
his organization. Together
Pee Wee and Jody embarked
on what was then the Camel
Caravan tour of American
military bases.
After a hitch in the service
Jody rejoined the Pee Wee King
group.
Since that time Jody has made
movies and records and appear
ed on such first-rank television
shows as Ed Sullivan's Toast of
the Town the Kate Smith Show
Steve Allen's Tonight Show and
the Dave Garroway Show.
Presently Cousin Jody and the
Country Cousins are touring mili
tary bases around the country.
They have recently completed a
similiar tour of Iceland and
Greenland.

yesterday about religious activ
ities at Fort Hood.

Chaplain Edwards is one of sev
eral to appear before nearby ci
vilian groups during Armed
Forces Week.
Chaplain Edwards is a
graduate of Hillsborough
High School Tampa Fla.
and of Stetson University
DeLand Fla.
Before entering military serv
ice he was pastor of Satsuma
Baptist Church Satsuma Fla. He
came into the Army in July 1952
after leaving the U.S. Marine
Corps in 1948 to complete his
theological training.
A crecent study determined that
the average length of passenger
car trips in the U.S. is 8.5 miles

irons. Wild and wooly costumed
minature cowboys holding lariats
and rodeo tickets served as place

and Mrs. W. R. Beasley who were
seated at the luncheon table with
Mrs. Earle G. Wheeler and Mrs.
