30 Graduate From Course
Brig. Gen. Marshall B. Garth
as is an 2 A iv
commander addressed 3 0
division soldiers last week at
graduation exercises at the
Fourth U.S. Army N O
Academy. The men were being
graduated from the prescribed
load list (PLL) course.
Sp4 Robert K. Vormelker
Hq. Hq. Co. 1st Bn. 67th
Armor was honor graduate of
the 84-hour course with a 98.5
final score.
The graduates represent a
variety of units throughout the
division. They will be
responsible for improving each
unit's PLL status.
In the course they learned
the clerical work necessary in
securing repair parts used in
he a in an of
division's tactical vehicles.

comprised of key staff officers
within the division sang a tune
faintly resembling ''Happy

fortunately managed to drown
out the enthusiastic vocalists.
Boles probably as a courtesy
to his sleepy neighbors then

refreshments.
Later that morning in the
division conference room Boles
was presented with some rather
unorthodox but highly

various units within the division.
1
Forerunners Boles received a
a it a a in
memorandum for record about
"dangling chains" a subject
familiar to Boles and to most
of the brigade. The Helmsmen
of the 2nd Bde offered a
humorous card and plaque on
which was mounted a claymore
mine to be included in the
a so a a
display.
The 3rd Bde. Bulldogs gave
the general a gift that they
considered the catch of the day
a fishing lure which strangely
resembles a bulldog with staff
sergeant stripes guaranteed to
frighten catfish away. DISCOM
presented him with a pair of
a a
officer grade field glasses
at an a a
parallax-free. Used with the
fishing lure the glasses will at
least give the General a last
look at "the one that got away."
DivArty added a hand held
direct fire M-l Arrow complete
with rattlers from a Texas
rattlesnake ... to be used
only if all other fire support
fails.
Other units presented Gen.
it re or a
pictures and other momentos of
his tenure as Old Ironsides'
division commander.
Gen. Boles reciprocated with
a an a a
highlighted by a demonstration
of the cavalryman's technique
of opening a champagne bottle.
With weapon in hand the
general skillfully proceeded to
open champagne bottles with
one swipe of his cavalry sabre
reminiscing later about a
gallant young lieutenant fresh
out of West Point reporting to
his commanding officer in a
a an a a
showing the dents in the sabre's
scabbard to prove it.
It was from every indication
a very happy birthday for the
general.
At the ceremony Garth spoke
to he a
importance of the course in

problems.
The general congratulated
each man as he passed out the
graduation certificates.
