In a surprise move last Fri
day the Senate defeated the
entire $3.2 billion foreign aid
bill by a vote of 41-27 ending
a 25-year program in which the
U.S. has contributed billions of
dollars to nations abroad. The
Senate Foreign relations Com
mittee began an effort Mon
day to revive forign aid amid
indications that the White House
and other leading members of
the Senate were eager to restore
the program.

Comes the fall and it's time
for the grape harvest. Normally
nature takes a whole season to
produce them but the 2nd
Armd. Div. wives are doing it
in two afternoons. Of course
they're not using the exact same
method.

Chaplain mentioned to a group
that he knew how to make grape
us of re in
resemble clear plastic. Five
wives immediately volunteered
to learn. Before long there were
25 eager 2nd Armd. Div. wives
in the group.
They met Thursday and Fri
day afternoon last week at the
Arts and Crafts Center in the
old hospital area. Chaplain
Russo was on hand to help each
individual lady do a good job.
Father Russo has taught
ceramics classes and still enjoys
the art but finds that resin
pouring is more enjoyable and
requires less time and material.
"The arrangements are so
pretty and lode so professional
that people who a
artistically inclined are leery
about trying it" said Chaplain
Russo "but there won't be one
failure if people just follow the
instructions.''
S
Mrs. John Maurer explained
the procedure this way: First
the gooey resin is poured into
a mold and mixed with a
catalyst. The various colored
dyes are added to provide col
oring. Later after the mold has
dried the shell is broken and
the individual glass balls are
attached with resin and catalyst
mixture to form a cluster. This
Command said the number of
American troops in the war zone
decreased by 5300 men during
the last week to 196700—the
lowest since January 1966. Peak
U.S. strength 2y2 years ago was
543000.

For the first time since the

ratings. During the week of Oct.

None of the clusters are iden
tical each has a certain in
dividuality.
"The hardest thing for me to
do is get the ladies to experi
ment with colors" Chaplain
Russo said. "They are so afraid
that they are going to make a
mistake they select one color
and make them all the same.
I have discovered the prettiest
and most original arrangments
are made by using varying
shades and arranging them so
they blend. Some people pre
fer to add gold or silver flakes
—there's just no end to what you
can do."
Mi's. George Cantlay said
she's "always wanted to learn
how to do this." She added that
the clusters would be used as
gifts possibly for Christmas.
Father Russo explained that
The emphasis on reserve
training is to acquaint and cross
train personnel on the latest
equipment the Active Army is
using. Another part of the pro
gram is to expose the men to
the widest possible variety of
equipment in increasing their ef
ficiency levels while working
alongside regular soldiers.

Sparking interest in resin
pouring is nothing new to Father
Russo. Military personnel and
their dependents at Ft. Ofd
Calif. Ft. Greely Alaska and
Ft. Benning Ga. have benefit

Although only grape clusters
were made last week Father
Etusso said the list of possibilities
of reasin pouring is endless.
Ashtrays lamps lighters and
candlestck holders are among
the many items that can be
fashioned from resin. The price
is low with the grape clusters
only costing about $10 as op
