The easy solution to the
complaints is to turn the set
off it won't get lonely.
You might discover you
have a husband an in
teresting room-mate or a
bulge around the middle. As
discrimination is gone
because much overt racism
has disappeared. But there
still exists much hidden
racism. The discussion within
the class helps bring
problems to the surface and
settle them rather than let
ting them simmer.
The goal of the class is to
make people conscious of
what they do unconsciously.
"awareness."
Heading the six man full-
time staff that conducts the
course are Cpt. Antonio Pino
and CW02 Elliot Ser. Ser was
trained at the Dept. of
Defense Race Relations In
stitute at Patrick AFB Fla.
The seven-week course in
cluded much first hand ex
perience in learning the
problems of minorities. For
example Ser explained he
lived for a time in a Miami
ghetto and also visited with
several migrant workers.
DivArty conducts two
classes per week one in the
morning and one in the after
noon. There are 25 men in
each class and there is a
cross-section of different
groups including at least 20
per cent from minorities.
The format for the class if
informal. There are no "plat
form" lectures but rather the
chairs have been arranged in
a circular pattern (there is no
back of the room feeling) and
questions are asked freely
with much discussion.
The class also includes two
excellent educational films

Reviewer turns on television viewers

to watch the junk being
presented the stations are
going to keep it right on
coming.
If the preceeding looked
familiar to Ft. Hood old-
timers. It was originally
published in this column on
and the students learn to
relate to each other through
various game activities and
role-playing situations. One
game called "Star Power"
illustrates the conflict bet
ween the so-called "haves"
and "have-nots" and demon
strates the principle of "the
rich get richer while the poor
get poorer."
When people first come
together they are strangers
but they gradually become
trusting and secure in the
group and they open up and
a a in a
discussions.
At the end of the 18 hours
students give a criticism of
the class. Several people who
had begun the class with a
closed mind found they really
had a favorable impression
and reaction to the class.
Their comments have been
encouraging. In fact no less
than 15 students from the
first two classes asked to be
able to work as members of
the staff.
Captain Pino's philosophy
is that "if this class changes
even one man so that he
treats someone a little better
it's worthwhile."

March 3 1972.
Since we're in the summer
television doldrums and the
weather so great I figured it
was once more appropriate.
About the only change
since the original was written
is that I'm getting bored with
"All In The Family."
However TV must have im
proved because I now have
two programs I look forward
to "Mary Tyler Moore" and
"MASH".
Incidentally apparently
I'm not the only viewer ex
periencing lack of interest in
Archie Bunker.
For the first time "All In
The Family" has been beaten
in a major market. The NBC
series "Emergency" out
distanced the CBS ratings
leader for the first time in
Los Angeles.
"Emergency" got a 35
share of audience while
"Family" trailed with a 32 in
the June 30th Los Angeles
Neilsen overnight ratings.
Both shows were airing
repeats.
