TCAFS RAFFLE and AUCTION
By David De Leon
Calling all members! Calling all members!
It's time again for all members of the Texas
Chapter of the American Fisheries Society to
go hit the pavement and start soliciting
goods and services for the annual auction
and raffle. Donation letters will be mailed
out to past contributors, but we still need all
members to be our local contacts. Proceeds
from the annual auction allow the chapter to
provide scholarships and travel funds for
deserving students in fisheries and wildlife.
Handmade crafts, prints, outdoor equipment,
and guided hunting and fishing trips have
always been particularly popular, but small
items such as lures, t-shirts, caps etc. are just
as important for the raffle. If you are able to
organize or donate a product or service,
please contact David De Leon (806-655-
4341, email ddeleon@cox-internet. corn) or
Brian Van Zee (915-651-5556, email
brian.vanzee@tpwd.state.tx.us) and we can
get you a copy of the donation letter to
present to potential contributors. If every
member can go out and solicit at least one
item, we can make this the best auction and
raffle ever.Continuing Education
by
Spencer Dumont
Continuing education this year will
feature training on Aquatic Nuisance
Species--Hazard Assessment Critical
Control Point (ANS-HACCP). The
presenter hopefully will be Douglas
Jensen from the University of Minnesota
Sea Grant Program. The workshop
teaches an approach to evaluate risks
of spreading nuisance species and
identify areas where the risk can be
minimized or eliminated. With Texas'
history of nuisance species, this
workshop will be very beneficial and
informative to students and
professionals alike.
