SOCIATION
Was organized in tne spring of
1875. The association purchased
from a company owning the farm
eighty acres of what was once known
as the Lee breeding farming and
rae course and at once began its im-
provement. It was enclosed by a solid
upright plank fence eight feet high
built upon heavy cedar posts. The
grand stand and the judges' stands
were erected at great cost inese
stands are the finest ot their
sort in the south the Beating and
standing capacity of the grand
stand being 8000. The stands are ot
massive frame-work and are capa-
ble of standing any weight of hu-
man beings that can be placed upon

still the largest one was erected in
time for the first fair in 1875. This
hall is commodious and well adapted
for exhibitions. Stock stables and
stalls in greatest plenty were also

week was delightful and it was a de-
cided success.
1877. This year the exhibition was
appointed to begin on October 16
to last five days. When the time came
the weather was most wretched and
there being apparently no prospect
of a change the fair was postponed
to begin November 13. It was held
at the time of postponement and the
result was eminently satisfactory.

Owing to the fearfnl drouth of that
rear it was not as good a fair as the
others. The people had but little to
show and but little money and the
officers were without hope. The
officers were Geo. W. Sampson pres-
ident ; Frank Hamilton and R. A.
Blandford vice presidents ; E. C. Bar-
tholomew secretary and treasurer;
John T. Hay nee. general superin-
tendent; C. S. West superintendent
speed ring ; Ed. Christian gate di-
rector; Geo. B.Zimpelman marshal.
1881. The appointment was made
for October 18 the exhibition to last
five days. The officers were: John
Hancock president; John A. Green
and A- J. Peeler rice-preaidenta ;
Bartholomew secretary and treas-
urer ; N. L. Norton general super-
intendent ; C. 8. West superintend-
ent speed ring; Ed. Christian gate
director; Ed Creary marshal. This
fair was noted for a great variety of
fancy and art productions and for a
file display of farm products.
