Tl rough no fault of mine and over
a general protrst the mechanical end
of the Dallaa Express has li terfered
with the ateady run of this narrative
in so much that recently my deliver-
ance being current literature they
have rather been glimpses of ancient
history.
I am on again however and hope
to be able to give off a regular in-
stallment weekly Just as things bap-
pen. .
Some Observation.
Many things are happening through-
out the country these spring days. On
all sides men are making history of
the kind which shines and It will
grow brighter with the years.
The studied efforts of certain south-
ern white newspapers to make It ap-
pear that the southern colored peo-
ple who about a year ago Journeyed
toward the north are now dissatisfied
:tnd want to return has failed.
The statements have been run
down and when they had the acid
test applied to them it was found
that they would not staud. The col-
ored men who Journeyed from the
south some time ago went away to
stay. Before leaving they took ev-
erything Into consideration tbey
' counted up the cohC
Not only will they not return but
If all the signs don't fail there are
others here who will emulate their
example.
Democracy
Is the dream of every American.
From the dark days which shrouded
tiie Revolution until the last gun was
flred the other day over there on the
Western Front In France the chief
concern of the great body of the peo-
ple baa been th making of a gov-
ernment which offered equal oppor-
tunity to all and special privilege to
none. The Afro-American has hearti-
ly entered Into all this program of
government making ' and has con-
tributed his full quota to making
glorious our Institutions. A secret
as It is kept the Colored mafi Is plan-
tilng to git out of the government
all that he has put In It and by all
the gods there ran be found no. way i
to prevent It.

Is the name of the North Louisiana
metropolis where I landed the morn-
ing of the 28th of April where I was
bt:io.1 to speak that night and the
night of the 2th. A part of the plan
bad miscarried. Revivals were ev-
ery where In full blast The busi-
nes of soul-saving had taken prece-
dence over all other enterprises and
as a result on the night of the 28th
I could find no place to speak. Vou
see I merely wanted to teach the
way to get the bread and meat of this
life while the preacher were talk-
ing about that living bread which. If
a man eats be will hunger no more.
On Tuesday night the 29th through
the kindness of Rev. W. A. Blnga-
man the pastor of Antloch famous
Antloch I got a small bunch of the
commercial elect together and was
permitted to expound the great doc-
trine of "Race Organisation For the
Promotion of Commercial Business.
Rev. J. M. Carter presided and a
brother whose voice was not broken
but badly cracked raised the Old
Hundred "And Am 1 Born to uie. to
Lay This Body Down?"
I spent an hour lening me Louis
iana natives the Texas way and I
believe that I "brok through." At
any rate I have the Information that
the attack was well received.
I forgot to say that Monday night
I attended at this same church a
choir reception the singing numbers
being rendered by three choirs and
let me tell you that the music was
of the kind which some fellow says
doth "soothe the savage breast"
As I took the time to say before
In a former written description
Shreveport colored Shreveport Is a
live wire and many are the examples
of enterprise among the people. I
am told that the colored people or
Shreveport number an even 18000
souls and I am glad to tell the out-
side world that there can be found
among them a little of everything
which shows them to be an enter-
prising set.
The usual Invitation to dine came
to me through Miss unio iNewun
who make her home In Texarkana
mostly but some time In Shreveport.
The unforgettable occasion was stag-
ed at the beautiful home of Mr. and
Mrs. Johnson at 102 Western Ave.
The party made up of Mr. and Mrs.
Carner a Mr. Grant Miss Toledo
Ohio Newlln and the Editor of the
Dallas Express. The menu was made
up with baked chicken at the bot-
tom topped off by the trimmings
which belong therewith.

splendid audience waa present. Paa-

Race. 1
I had no less a personage than
Prof. Virgil Goree to motor me to
my stopping place at the home of
Lieutenant Ferrance Just back from
France where I had a splendid sup-
per. I spent a dreamless night at the
beautiful residence of Mr. and Mrs.
Charity Chappelle. A splendid break
fast fell to my lot
The next day I accepted an Invita
tion to renew the Inner man at the owM a caf After exammIng the ties

Dinner being served at the Paris
Sanitarium we went to Barnett's
Opera House where a full silver cor-
net band played "Hail the Chief."
Paris waa out there the pretty wo
menthe mighty men. lb? platform
rocked under the load of notables.
Outside the day was perfect A gen-
tle xophyr had cleared the elements
of clouds and the early May aun lent
a certain greenish lustre to the ever-
Increasing foliage. Dr. Boswell who
by the way. Is the president of the
League presided and after song
and prayer by Rev. C'.' N. Hampton
introduced "Senator" E. W. Bailey
who In turn introduced Col. W. E.
King the orator of the occasion. He
delivered a discourse on the "Power
of Organization." He spoke for 90
minutes and received a vote of con-
fidence. The Paris Advancement
League Is an organization which is
doing much to uplift the people and
Its work commends it to the favora-
ble consideration of the people. I
spoke at night to a large congrega-
tion at the First Baptist Church of
which Rev. C. N. Hampton is pastor.
I took no text but I am told I dwelt

The warning has been .sounded not by doctors alone but coming
from the pulpit aa well. The American women are fast destroying their
beauty with hot combs. Bear in mind that every reputable doctor will tell
you that you cannot keep hair on your head and continue the use of hot
combs. The hot combs not only destroys the natural oil which nature pro-
Tided but leaves the scalp fevorious and in such a condition that it has
been said that it had its effect upon the mental power. In order that you
may keep the scalp and Lair In a healthful condiUon you must not disturb
nature and that is exactly what you do every time you apply. tLe hot combs.
