old ot 711 East Avenue C. passed
away Tuesday evening Aug. 28th
at his home. Funeral services were
held Thursday evening Aug. 30th
from the 8th street Baptist church ot
which he was a member; Rev T; E.
Geo. officiated. The" deceased Is sur
vlved by a wife one daughter two
sous and other relatives. Interment
was made 1n the City cemetery by
Undertaker E. L. C. Branford under
the auspices of the Supreme Union
Grand Lodge. ff

a social in honor of the Temple Cho-
ral Club last Thursday night at the
home of Mrs. N. E. Hornsby 408 So.

the features of the evening; cake and
cream were the refreshments and
a nice time was enjoyed.

citizen of Temple left last Tuesday
evening for Okmulgee Okla. to live
with his sister and make same his

has been in Muskogee Okla. for the
last six months returned home last
week to take up her school work in
the city high school. Mrs. Tom Stiff
was called last week to the bed side
of her sister at Celest. Mrs. T. H.
George is ill at this writing. Mrs. W.
L. Worlds was called last week to the
bedside of her mother at Winchester.

and Mrs. A. O. Hr.rris pastor of Mt
Zion Baptist churoh with a Mid-day
dinner last Thursday. The menu con-
snsted of fried chicken with cream
gravy spaghetti .with cheese fresh
string beans candled yams' stuffed
pickles and celery waldoirt salad Ice
tea pine apple cake and green and
red cherry punch. After dinner suffi-
ciently partaken of. the hostess and
gu6sts took a spin over the city for
about an hour; winding up on Bru-
no's Hall after a very pleasant eve-
ning enjoyed by all. Mrs. M. E. Wil-
liams of Bartlett organizer of the
Ancient Order ot Pilgrims was in the
city last week In interest of the order

day. Mrs. Maggie Thomas was called
to Mexia. Texas to attend the fune-
ral of her brother who- died there

her daughter Mrs. Minnie Boykins
who has returned home. Miss Lillian
Porter who has been in the city for
several months left for her home in
Waco by auto. There is a great deal
of sickness in the city and our phy-

high school for colored opened Mon
day Sept 4th with guite a flattering
attendance. Members of high grades
and all other departments were well
representetd. The principal and his
staff of teachers were all smiles with
such bright prospects of attendance
for he first opening in spite of the
great rush of cotton pickers leaving
forthe cotton fields. More than 100
.pupils enrolled the first day and the
enrollment still grows every day. Too
much cannot be said ot the school
spirit' of Marlln of which the colored
