Believing that yon are deeply Interested in
the welfare of our city and that yuu advo-
cate the spending of the public funds where
the greatest necessity exists nnd the greatest
good mny be done I desire to call your atten-
tion and through tbe medium of your col-
ums that of our City Council t otbe fnct that
tbe crossing at Die Dallas branch on the Mc-
Klnney Mad near Mr. Krelg's mill Is nt
present a disgrace to the authorities and nn
Injury to the elty. The breaking down or
stalling of wagons there Is of dally occur-
rence. If I remember correctly a petition
signed by a largo nuniber of citizens was
presented some months ago to tho City Coun
cil praying them to make some Improve
ment at that crossing; but wbnt I do know is
that nothing bus yet been done at that point.
The McKlnney road Is as almost Bny one
knows our principal thoroughfare leading
north nnd the majority of the wagons going
In that direction must cross nt that place if
they can before getting outside of tbe cor-
porate limits. The crossing becomes worse
with every day's delay and at least twice
the amount will now be necessary to make
It passable that would liavo sufficed two
months ago.
No exaggerated picture has been drawn of
that email ng. The Incredulous are Invited
to go and see for themselves. Homethlng
should be done at once to improve It; and It
la Hi be honed that before any more doubtful
Improvements" are made on unimportant
streets and by-ways the City Council will
give some "aotlve" attention to the place re-
ferred to nnd so Improve It that loaded
wagons can come Into the business part of
the city or go out of it without accident
