Yesterday morning Tun I hut ami
made mention of the fact that a negro
girl iu the employ of Mr Anloiuc on
Mam street corner .Sycamore had made
away with a lot ot properly for him.
(Several of the iirticles us was elated
were recovered and Mr. Antoiue had
Haltered himself that ho had lost but
very little but Mrs. Antoiue who has
been Hllliito.l with rheumatism and
who had heretofore been unable to go
up the htalrs yesterday morning dis-
covered that she had been rob tied 10 a
far greater extent than she had sup-
posed. The negress whoso name is
Kli.a Humphreys who had been turn
ed loose at the Instigation of Mr. An
toiue und his wife who did not choose
lo prosecute her for the injury she had
done them .vas1 upon the second
dlscovH'y rearrested by Marshal
Morton when shs confessed that she
had stolen other articles and accom
puttied by the marshal she discovered
to him the following modest lin : One
set of silver knives and forks one set
of tea and table spoons one-silver la
die three shawls (ouo a lino uus.li mere)
live silk dresses from Mrs. Anloine
und two pair ot pants a vest and
dress coat from Mr. Antoiue besides a
lot of pictures their little baby's
clothes and its toy money bank which
she had robbed of several dollars und
several other smaller articles too nu-
merous to mention. They had pbi.'ed
the most implicit eolilideuee in the
girl never once thinking her dishon-
est she having been iu their em-
ploy for two years. When she wus
asked why she 1 10k tliu things she
stated that her father had always told
her to take whatever she could lay her
bauds on and that she hud been for
some time following his advice. Mr.
Antoiue hud became to regard the girl
as almost a part of his family and he
together with hlsi wife were greatly
astonished ut the theft. She slated
that she hud been carrying on this sort
of business for some time und us sev-
eral articles hud been previously
uils.ed it is gupposuble thut she has
stolen many things of which they
have no definite knowledge. The girl
is ht present free but she should be
