the following article :
A special to the Now Orloans Ticayune
dated Washington May 1". Bays:
"A letter containing startling cha-ges
was received vostordny by Chairman Sic-
Lane of the Pacific lUilroad committee of
the House. The writer of this lettar is a man
by the name of J. A. Goorre. He says that
he h&3 documents and letters in bis posses-
sion to prove that when the original charter
of the Texas 4 Vt cillc railroad was passed in
1871 $1200000 in land-grant bonds and
$90000 in cash were used to buy votes to
socure the passage of the act. He alleges
that the cash was placed in the hands of one
Senator to be distributed evenly to tho three
other Senators and that $'200000 in land-
grant bonds was given the same Sonator to
be distributed wherever it would do the most
good in the Senate. Georgo also says that
$1000000 of land-grant bonds wore placed
in tho hands of a cerium member ot the
House and were bv him distributed to pur-
chase the votes of Representatives' in favor ot
the schomo. He savs that letters telegrams
and other documentary evidence to prove the
truth of his assertions aro deposited in a
bank iu this city and it it is desired ho will
appear before any committee of tue House
and prove the truth of his assertions N
names are nn nlionod in this letter. Mr.
McLane showed the letter to Representative
Ellis of Louisian and tney nava ueciuoo. 10
notifv Mr. Georgo to present his evidence to
thnm" for examination. If upon investiga
tion it is found George bns any proof to
substantiate his assertions tho whole matter
n;n Vm hdd before the Committee on lVillo
Railroads at its next meeting on Thursday
and the House will bo requested to oruer an
invo.ii.tion. From all the information
whb.h'V.in Vm obtained this evening Mr.
non. annnwi to bu ft man of sutnewoat
doubtful chamcler. It is charged that he
has been in the employ of the Huntington
Central Pacillc lobby and latterly has been
serving the star route contractors' ring."
