AMARILLO TEXAS FRIDAY JUNE 29 1906

Cured of Brlght's Disease.
Geo. A. Sherman Lisbon Red
Mills Lawrence Co. N. Y. writes:
"I had kidney disease for many
years and had been treated by phy-
sicians for twelve years; had taken
a well-known kidnev medicine and
other rem?dies that were recom-
mended but got no relief until I
began using Foley's Kidney Cure.
The first half bottle relieved me
and four bottles have cured me oi
this terrible disease. Before I be-
gan taking Foley's Kidney Cure I
had to make water about every fif-
teen minutes day and night and
passed a brick-dust substance and
sometimes a slimy substance. I
believe I would have died if I had
not taken Foley's Kidney Cure."

WATERING PLACE TO BE SECURED
Manager Jones of the Water Company Agrees to
Furnish the City Without Cost Three Thousand
Gallons per Honth.
Tom L. Miller
Electrician
The effects of the Civic League
are already being felt and when the
things that are now absorbing the
closest attention of this organiza-
tion are brought to a finale the
entire citizenship of Amarillo will
be benefited. Though the organiza-
tion is less than a week old it has
assumed the position of a ''full
grown" and tha way the members
are working there will be some
things done toward bettering the.
city that have long been deemed
necessaries but only latefy have
received the attention that is due.
For three consecutive days the
League committee appointed to
confer with the other committees
in regard to some questions have
been on hand promptly but for
some reason other committees
were absent until yesterday after-
noon when the meeting was held.
The proposition that is considered
the most vital at present is a
public watering place and on ac-
count of the present warer rates
it was being freely talked in favor
of letting the city county com-
mercial club and civic league
jointly put down a well on the
court house square for public use.
This ho n ever was thought to be
an expensive solution but it seem-
ed to be the only one at this time.
It was known that all the com-
mittees with the exception of the
county commissioners would come
together in the matter and each
donate their share in doing this
but there existed some doubt as to
the county's standing their part for
the reason it is said that at this
time of the year the treasury is
not over burdened with funds and
besides bonds are falling due as
well as other expensives staring
them in the face. This matter was
thoroughly discussed by the ladies
committee Mayor Miller and Judge
Merrill and it was finally decided
to see the gentlemen in regard to
the proposition let their decission
be what it may. .At this point
Judge Merrill suggested that rates
be asked for from the water- com-
pany and if too high then the only
method to resort to was to sink a
well. Manager Jones of the com-
pany was called in and after hear-
ing the proposition agreed to
furnish to the city for public use
three thousand gallons per month
free of charge and to put it at
thirty cents a thousand gallons for
all over that amount provided the
city would put in the fountain and
other fixtures. This proposition
was taken under advisement and
Mr. Jones was thinked for his
liberality in the matter. Another
matter in reference to this same
question was then brought forth;
it is the intention of the city gov-
ernment when any improvement is
made that the street grades be
established and side .walks be put
in as regulated by the ordinance
recently passed. Thus before the
committees in charge can put in a
watering placed or accept Manager
Jone proposition side walks must
be place around the court house
and the grades established. Judge
Merrill was questioned .as to
whether or not the county was
ready "to comply with these things
his answer being a reference to
the county commissioners. This
being the case it was decided to
meet again this afternoon with the
cormvssiaiers if p)ss'ble and to
make some definite pUns in regard
to side walks.
The meeting of the committees
lasted possibly two hours and the
two propositions elicited muoh dis-
cussion on the part of all. The
needs of such things are evident
and we bespeak success for those
who are showing their interest in
the nutter.
Eberstadt Building Sold.
The brick business house at the
corner of Polk and Fourth known
as the Eberstadt building changed
hands yesterday the consideration
being $35500 cash and the pur-
chaser was A. Davidson. The
building is considered one of the
best properties in the city and is
modern in every respect. It was
erected but two years ajo there-
fore is practically new;ar.d is steam
heated and electric lighted throught
out. . The building is
6eventy-five by one hundred feet
and is two stories in height. The
lower floor is occupied by the
mammoth dry good store of A.
Davidson and the "cozy corner" of
the popularCharles Her. The upstairs
is used as office rooms altogether.
The property sold for an increase
in value over a few months ago
and with the present price of city
property and the enhancement of
such that is being realized every day
the investment of the amount
paid yesterday is considered a
splendid one.
