Bank Teller Catches
Would-Be Hi-Jacker
llli.MAR. Cai., April 28 (UP)
An heroic bank teller was cred-
ited today with foiling a $7,000
holdup of a Bank of America
branch by twisting losses from
ropes that bound him and tack-
ling the would-be bank bandit.
Teller Don Davenport, !i~, of
Turlock, Cal., broke loose and
threw the robber to ihe floor
with a violent tackle when he
turned to leave. Tearing the
bandit's gun out of his hands,
ihe teller hit him with it.
State police arrived a few
minutes later to find Smith
stretched out on the floor.
"It was just one of those
things," Davenport said.
