Roy Bird Op6ns Snyder Dairy
Queen; Firm Is Doing Good
Roy Bird, who operates the
/Dairy Queen drive-in, located
on East Broadway in Sweet-
water .recently opened a similar
store at Snyder.
Bird reports the Snyder store
doing well. "Dairy Queen is be-

ing received enthusiastically by
the people of Snyder and vicini-
ty, just as they have in this
community," he says. The Sny-
der store is built of the same
architectural design as the local
^store and products served are
Videntical.
Dairy Queen is one of the
most popular places in Sweet-
water, especially during the
evening hours when local citi-
zens drive out for refreshments.
The place is usually filled with
cars and Mr. Bird has graded off
a spacious parking area adjoin-
ing the drive-in to accomodate
his customers.
Many families find Dairy
« Queen an unusually nourishing
and satisfying treat. The pro-
ducts are made with highest
quality ingredients under a pat-
ented formula that is used the
nation over in Dairy Queen
stores.
The drive-in here is open
from 11:30 in the morning until
11:00 at night.
Bird is a former educator who
traveled with the State Depart-
ment of Education. His travels
of the state in this position
caused him to elect Sweetwater
as a place to enter business and
make his home. As he went
about over the state, Bird ob-
served the popularity of Dairy
Queen. He had wanted to live
in Sweetwater for many years
and the city did not have a Dairy
Queen Store.
After negotiating for fran-
chises, lot and erecting a build-
ing. Mr. Bird opened his Dairy
Queen last May and since that
time the firm has enjoyed a
thriving business.
New Look In Studebaker Cars
Meets With Public Favor
The 1950 model Studebaker is
actually creating a sensation in
Sweetwater as well as all over
Jthe nation, according to Hugh
Colwell, owner of the local Stu-
debaker dealership.
"The new car is r.ew all over
and is actually the car that is
stopping traffic," Colwell says.
"We have had an excellent re-
ception here of the new cars and
we want to thank the public for
their kindness in visiting our
showroom during the recent
showing of the 1950 models," he
,says. The Studebaker sales room
here was filled throughout the
day and far into the night for
several days when the cars first
made an appearance early this
month.

of the new Studebaker coil
spring front suspension lies in
the fact that both upper and
lower control arms are pivoted
so that they rake to the rear
about 15 degrees. This has the
effect of cushioning the ride on
rough roads since the front
wheels tend to "travel away"
from a bump as the car is driv-
en over it. Rubber insulation is
used at the top and bottom of
each coil spring. Shock absorb-
ers on the Champion are the di-
rect-acting tubular type while
the Commander utilizes the
double-acting lir.ik-and- lever va-
riety.
Engines in both the Cham-
pion awl Commander have a
new compression ratio of 7.0 to
1, and for high altitudes only, a
7.5 to 1 is available. Comman-
der engine horsepower has been
increased to 102 at 3,200 revo-
lutions per minute while the
Champion has been raised to 85
horsepower at 4,000 revolutions
per minute.
All models have a simplified
symmetrical steering linkage,
with definite center-point link-
age on the Commander and
Land Cruiser. Commander tire
has been increased to 7.60x15.
The Champion is equipped with
four-ply 6.40x15 tires. All tires
are the extra low pressure type.
