since seeing that report we have ask-
ed a number of farmers if there was

ry county and we have been unable to
find any trace of boll weevils here.
In fact the boll weevil has never
worked In Scurry county.
We cannot Imagine where this re-
port cunc from out of Scurry county
therefore it must have been Intended

W. R. Wren brought to J. E. Ketner's
nocery store the other day a cab-

Wren was at one time a resident of

War. But it does not tell all. Young
Porter was 0ne of Snyder and Scurry
county's iiiOst nobis and patriotic
c'tlzens. As a citizen he was loyal
end devoted. As a soldier he was
putrlotlc. brave and manly. He was
M'eatly loved by those who knew him
bst In civil life and by those who
learned to know him best as a sol-
dier. He was one of those splendid
oung chaps that can always be o-
P nded upon when our country n-eds
citizens or soldiers.
The beautiful military service wn
I'eld from the esst steps of the court-
house. The body arrived Wednes-
day morning on the 2:30 train and
fan taken to the Stokes undertaking
f tahllshmer.t where it remained un-
til 10 o'clock when it was removed
to the family residence. At 4:30
the local Legion Post repaired to the
family residence and took possession
of the body conveying It to the court-
house square where the services were
held. At the southeast corner of th-?
square sixteen ladies members of the
local Red Cross Chapter dressed as
army nurses. Joined the procession
which ncrched around the square
stopping at the east side where tin
crowd had gathered for the service.
After the casket was placed be-
fore the speakers' stand the Red
Cross ladiej marched around it de

On Sunday night Evangelist Cly(e
Lee Fife brought to a close one of
the moot successful meetings at the
Tabernacle In spite of the rata
which fell alenteoualy during the
campaign the meetings were a splen-
c'id success and many souls were
ac'ded to the churches.
The singing by Mr. McK.ee and
the playing by his wife was enjoyed
by all. Mr. and Mrs. McKeer re-
turned to their home In Ft. Worth

lead the prayer. The choir then

I Cor. 15. Mrs. Davis at the re-
quest of the family then sang
"Some Time We'll Understand. Chap-
lain Davis then delivered the oration.

tiien taken to the Snyder cemetery.
At Jhe cemetery Lieutenant Wi-
terman. in a brief but very appropri-
ate address presented the ba' that

I he Porter family. After the lower-
ing of the body and the filling of the
fc.ave. Bro. Hull a long time friend
of the family pronounced the bene-
diction. After the benediction the
t-ahite was tired over the grave and
taps were Hounded. There wc left our
comrade sleeping beneath a mound
covered with a profusion of beautiful
Ptwers. There may he sleep In
pence until the great shout. ''Behold
He cometh." is heard when as
Clulstmas Evans has said. "The
bursting tombs and the songs of the
redeemed will out-rival the morning
stars when they saag together and
nil the sons of God shouted for Joy."
"Rest in peace dear comrade
your work is done. Your peaceful
test Is well earned. The cause for
which you died shall not perish from
the earth. We. your comrades will
see to Its being preserved and your
supreme sacrifice will not be forgot-
ten. ' Farewell."

ASSOCIATION MEETS JULY 8
Among the most important events
in .Scurry county Oil Fellowship Is
the semi-annual convention of th-
order? known as the Scurry County
Odd Fellows' Association which

For some time past preparations
have been going on In every lodge iu
the county and especially among the
degree teams in the content to be put
mi for the Second Degree. It is 3ald
that Hermlelgh. Ira. Dunn and Py-
lon will enter teams In this contest
and If all these lodges are repre-
sented it Is evideut that the goat
supply will be greatly depleted. How-
ever the Snyder bn thren say if the
koats do not hold out. they have some
t'rst-class two-year-old steers in re-
serve. The "eats" committee Is right 'ip
with the Job. and their plans were
ready long ago. . According to their
spokesman the spread will have the
eppearanoe of'unythinx but a Bar-
mecides feast.
At the meeting tonight Snyder
lodfje will perfect arrangements for
the entertainment of the guests.
At 3:00 p. m. Friday afternoon
Kev. S. X. Swimme. past grand mas-
ter of Oklahoma and now pastor ot
the M. F.. church at Midland. Texa.
will deliver an address on the mys-
teries of Odd Fellowship. This ad-
dress will be open to the public and
every one is invited to be present and
especially is every Odd Fellow' and
Rebecca in the county urged to hear
this great man expound the princi-

Business sessions of the association
will he held at 5 and 7:30 p. m.
Supper will be served at the Hall
for all Odd Fellow and Rebecois

honor of Miss Alice Orayum on P.ist
Monday night at Wolfe Park.
Punch was served while the lunch
was being served and it seemed the

An unusual excitement filled the

suddenly a lull which la-sted for
some time descended over all before
the cream and cake could be dis-
posed of.
