good bouts the local amateurs
won in Municipal auditorium
Thursday night, and one they
lo^t. Outstanding affairs were
the' kayo J. L. Turner hung on
Dave Parker, good boxer- from
Harmn-Simmons at Abilene, and
the decision of Grover Cleveland
over Gordon Wood, another Abi-
lenian. Decision of Ellis Reed of
Big Spring over Dick Hanna was
a surprise, but it had to be a
good bout for Hanna to lose.

school during the next ten days
as 11 teams of girls open the
intra-mural softball "contests un-
der the direction of Miss Vivian
Liddell physical ed instructor.
A galaxy of 'tought' names have
been selected, perhaps to scare
the opponents. It will be an
elimination series to decide the
playground championship for
the school.

ettes, mary Ellen Pepper; Nit
Wits, Mildred May; Panthers,
Elsie Hinson; Organ Grinders,
Hattie Johnson; Bobcats, Vir-

The schedule opens Monday

have been challenged to a grid
battle by Port Arthur, to be
played on the coast gridiron
Sept. 23. Supt. R. S. Covey has
taken up tentative arrange-
ments. It will he a tough
game, says Coacn Lauranee
Priddy. but he wants a tough
contest to see what the Mus-
tangs need for the Oil Belt dou-
ble round robin. Negotiations
also are underway for a game
with Fort Worth Tech here
Sept. 16. This will make eight
games, counting six conference
tilts, with Sept. .'{() open to re-
cover from the Port Arthur trip
and get ready for Abilene to
open the loop schedule.

Reagan junior high school
announces the Colts will
open spring practice April
11, after the district track
and field meets April i) in

to play. A six weeks sche-
dule is planned unless the

A dual tennis meet between
Roby and Newman high school
girls will be conducted this af-
ternoon on the City Park courts
it is announced by Mrs. Flor-
ence Sparkman. coach of the
Newman squad. Saturday the
Sweetwater squad contemplates
a dual match at. Hamlin.
Inez Ritter, stellar senior sin-
gles player who went to the
finals in the cli.-tf.rict meet last
year, is showing improvement
and is expected to be among the
top-ranking stars of the con-
tests again this year. Doubles
team has not been selected, with
four girls in the running: Na-
dine Godfrey, Mary Mcllvaine,
Kathleen Freeman and Mildred
Klingler.
McCrarkcn Outstanding
liillie McCracken is the out-
standing singles performer in
the junior division for Newman.
Doubles team is Wanda Hawlev
and Mary Patterson.
The senior girls contests of
the district meet will be held
in Sweetwater April 0, while
the juniors perform April 1(5.
Both squads of the local girls
look like winners but will have

the softball schedule for 19:18
has been set for 7:30 o'clock
Monday evening in the Texas
Electric Service building Presi-
dent A. A. Eberle of tile Lions
club, sponsors of the schedule
asks that all team managers
and those who will sponsor
teams during the season, confer
with him Monday night.
Both boys and girls schedules
are contemplated. Those from
the outlying districts with girls
teams that want to combine
with Sweetwater in the season's
program also are invited to at-
tend this meeting. It is the plan
now to start the program each
night with a girls game, and

Golf Tourney
MIDLAND
Announcement
of a women's invitation golf
tournament to be held here
April 28-May 1, is made by mem-
bers of the Women's Golf Asso-
ciation here.
Sponsors of the tournament,
the first of its kind ever to be
held here, declared that the
tourney will be open to all ama-
teur women golfers of the state.
Qualifying scores will be re-
corded on the opening day of
the tournament and all en-
trants will be placed in flights
according to their scores.
Prices will be offered for the
flight winners, runners-up and
consolation winners. The num-
ber of flights will not be decid-
ed until the entry list has been
completed. A medalist prize will
also be given.
A supper will be held on the
night of April 28, with a Cal-
cutta Pool auction immediately
afterwards as two of the fea-
tures of the entertainment. A
long-driving contest will also be

Exhibition Game
Invitation to play an exhibi-
tion game in Sweetwater .after
April 15 has been made by Har-
ry A. Faulkner, business1 man-
ager of the Lubbock team in
the Texas-New Mexico profes-
sional baseball loop, now1, in
spring training in Longview. In
a communication to O. O. - Hol-
lingsworth of Sweetwater,
Faulkner said ihey would be
glad to break the trip back to
Lubbock for a Sunday game in
Sweetwater.
A call for hardball players to
meet the Lubbock team has
been issued by Hollingsworth
for 1:30 o'clock Sunday after-

the Thursday game of the
ward school spring conference 0
to 5. The game was excellently
played, with good field ancl bat
work displayed by both teams.
Bridges for Cowen hit a long

in the fifth. Pinch-hitting in the
seventh. Pace responded with a
double that produced two runs
