Dear loved ones
Bleep, your heart, Mamma, "but I'm not IN the "Lower Depths" in fact
that play closed late in Febuary. As you can see, the name of the
play tnat i have been working my ass off with for the past four
months is "The Giant? I work for a producing company called
Be-Theater and am their chriographer and lead dancer, ae well ae
acting and. whatever else they dr 1 decide 5 can do. The photo
inclosed is one of the ones that cculdnt be used for publicity so
i swiped it for you. it does'nt give you a true idea of tfte mood,
and image cf thet particular dance because the young lady (Dcretha
Phillips) relaxed ner arms just as the picture was taken. I will
get you a "better one if possible. We have one more week to run and
tften we(br tney) will start on a nev show. 1 Bay "tney" "because i
«tgoing on a leqve of absence from the company in order to keep my-
self sane and alive, i must get another job. this show has earned
me vpry little money, so little that i won't even mention a f'gure
("because it would embarrass me, and probably frighten you.) I am
living off tne mercy of a few wonderful friend? who have faith in
what i am trying to do. This is a very uncomfortable way to liv**,
besides it not doing much to strengthen ray s^lf-respect. Again i
submit tne request for "five dollars whenever you can". (I vdsh
B6TH of us nad a dollar for as many times as i've written those words)
Besides being in a state of complete physical and nervous exhaustion
i nave never felt better in my life. Living at this high pitch is
quite eggx agreable to me it seems. Seriously (because i know
you'll worry if I dont say tnis) i am eating and sleeping regurlarly
and have even Deen to see a dentist. And as you can see from the
photograph, I've never looked better.
FOB SYLVIA: Too bad about history, but don't feel too bad. i did
the same thing in algebra, and i don't think that i turned out to be
such a bad cat. Did I? Besides, summer school is a snap and for me
it was sort of fun. (I know that sounds like bullshit now, but v*ait
until next year, or *ven septfember, and see how pleasent your memories
are. Thank you very much for the copy of 2$ "HIGKTS" Georgia'a story
at the end of the magazine is terriffic. By any standards. That
child should get herself out of there and into the real world as soon
as she is able to travel, she is really a terriffic talent.
FOE GABY: Sorry I couldn't make it to your graduation, old boy, but
i had a show that night. But I'm sure you carried it all off quite
well without me. Now that that crap is over (meaning your twelve
years of forced submittion to the American Public Education System^
you can rub your hands together, grin, and really discover what a
fantastic world this is, and what a kick it is to be Gary Houston,
about this time, everyone must be giving you that fcAajMui tired, grim
lecture about how hard you will have to work in college, and becoming
responsible and generally stressing the "importance of these next four
years. They have a point of course ( a moot one in my opinion, but
