grafting was decided necespary
to save his life. The skin of
three bullfrogs was placed in
small patches which is expected
to spread solid over the leg.
Chicago and other northern
cities have suffered from another
heat wave, several deaths re-
sulting. Relief was brought by
a rain Sunday, which developed
into a cyclone at Pekin, Illinois,
where two men were killed and
much damage done to property.
According to a late decision of
Supreme court it is not a viola-
tion of the National pure food
anddruglaw to put a false claim
as to the curative powers of a
medicine on the label, as the law
only adplied to the misstatements
about the ingredients of the med-
cines.
Diaz, deposed President of
Mexico, sailed for Spain Wednes-
day evening from Vera Cruz.
He made a farewell address to
the soldiers who escorted him on
his way from Mexico City and
declared if his country ever
needed his help he would return.
He wept at the thought of leav-
ing his native 'i.jiintry. Diaz is
in his eighty-firs', year.
The United States Supreme
Court renders a decision against
the Tobacco Tust also, holding it
be an illegal combination in re-
straint of trade. The decision
affects 94 companies. An oppor-
tunity is given the Trust to dis-
integrate and re-create a condi-
tion of business not repugant to
law. Justice Harlan again des-
sents again in the court's appli-
cation of the "Rule of Reason"
to the anti-trust law.
| For the first time in the history
; of the service the deficit in the
; Postoffice Department has been
' entirely wiped out and over $7,-
000,000 surplus for the current
fiscal year ending June 30 is in
j the treasury to the department's
| credit. The recent reforms in
j the department's financial sys-
tem ha9 made this posbible. $3,
000,000 was turned back intj the
U. S. treasury. Think of it, the

money!
Good Roads Campaign.
Th e Commerical Secretaries
and Business Men's Association
is now taking a census of the
public high way improvement in
the state during 1911 to date and
the result will be announced the
latter part of the week.
The information will oover
every phase of public road im-
provment including highways,
bridges, viaduc's and streets and
the data is gathered from Com-
mercial Secretaries, County Jud-
ges and Mayors of cities.
The Association began a cam-
paign over a year ago for a $25,-
000,000 bond issua in 1911, and
the organization is taking an in-
ventory in order to determine the
progress made in road building
to date.
Good roads will help those
who cultivate the soil and feed
the multitude and whatever aids
the producers of our country will
increase our wealth and great-
ness and benefit all the people of
the land. The farmers who pro-
duce the necessities
of life are less dependent
than the milions o f peo-
ple who live in our cities and
towng. Good roads are just as
important to the consumers, if
not more so, than they are to the
producers of the country. Help
the farmers build good roads.
