AND PAULINE MARRIED
AND GONE ON A TRIP.
fP wi v f|pr •' ;1
THE RUSK CHEROKEEAN
A "STAR" VISIT TO CALIFORNIA
6 *
J. D. (Pete) Williams and Miss
Pauline King were married at the
heme of the bride's mother, Mrs.
John King, at high noon, Tuesday,
by Rev. W. J. Rushing, pastor of the
First Baptist church.
The ceremony was strictly a pri-
vate affair, only the immediate fam-
ily of the contracting parties and
the minister being present. I fact
Pete forgot to say anything to the
minister about it until just a few
minutes before the appointed hour.
The happy couple left immediately
for Dallas and will go from there
to St. Louis and other points, on a
week's honeymoon, during which Mr.
Williams will select the stock of fall
and winter goods for his ready-to-
wear, clothing and furnishing busi-
ness.
This is one wedding about which
we feel constrained to tell the truth,
the whole truth and nothing but the
truth, as both parties are particular
friends of ours and we happen to
know considerable about them.
Mr. Williams is one of the leading
merchants of this city, and during
the two years he has been in busi-
ness here has firmly established him-
self, not only in a business way, but
in the confidence and friendship of
our people. He is an energetic, wide-
awake, hustling young man, always
on the job, with a hearty salutation
for all, considerate of and courteous
to his competitors, and just simply
an all-around, hale fellow, well met,
who will meet you and greet you and
take a chance on anything in which
he has anything like an even break.
He was born and reared at Garri-
son, in Nocogdoches county, but re-
ceived his growth and education in
Arkansas. He comes of one of the
best families in East Texas, but
does not have as many brothers as
some people have been lead to be-
lieve.
Mr. Williams has a bright future
in the business world, which he has
acquired through his application and
fair dealing, and we are all pleased
to know of is fortunate marriage
and to record the fact that he has
one more firm and commendable tie '
to bind him to the community and
with its interests.
Pauline is the second daughter of
Mrs. John King, a real, native Rusk
u'irl, having lived here all her life,
and that has not been so awful long
She is one of those charming, gra-
A pleasant trip was enjoyed by
Mr. and Mrs. W. 0. Neely, of Rusk,
and Mrs. Jacob Oliger of Dallas, who
have just returned from Los Angeles,
California, where they visited Mrs.
Robert W. Harper, formerly Misw
Elizabeth Neely, of Rusk.
The Harpers entertained them roy-
ally in their Spanish home, located
near Hollywood, and where they
found the Pacific breezes delightful,
as they are the year around.
Mr. Neely drove a Durant "Star"
four, making about five thousand
miles over deserts and mountains, j
without a single pucture or car trou- i
ble of any nature. He says he is more |
convinced than ever cf Durants Star j
four and sixes being able to stand I
the test. The New Mexico and Ari- .
zona mountains were as high as!
4,700 feet, but the Star had no
trouble in making them in high.
After reaching the Harper's home
they were shown about the cities of
Los Angeles, Hollywood, Pasadena,
Long Beach and San Diego, where
they saw many beautiful homes sur-
rounded with palms and flowers.
The most enjoyable feature of the
trip was to Santa Catalir.a Island,
which was ma.'e on a glass bottom
boat.
The Busch estate in Pasadena is
one of the most beautiful parks in
California.
After returning from this enjoy-
able vacation trip, Mr. Neely will
continue his sales agency of autos
and also be in the spot cotton mar-
ket the coming season.
eious young ladies that creates a
favorable impression and forms and
holds everlasting friendships. She is
good looking, if anything better
looking than she used to be, has an
acute sense of the ridiculous and is
real smart. A more companionable
young lady than Pauline it would be
difficult to find and notwithstanding j
his deserts, everybody says Fete did j
well, and with them he heartily
agreed.
The couple will letuin the first
of the week, after which they will j
be at home with Mrs. King, as every-
body knows, Pauline may get mar-;
ried to the man of her choice and '
be ever so happy in the new rela-'
tion, but Mrs. King is not going to |
give up the idol of her life wholly j
to any man and then you could not
imagine Pauline being very long or I
far away from her mamma.
