villi'. Tennessee, which shows tlie re-
markable growth of that section.

M. C, Mix, who for several years
has published the Macon county
News, at Lafayette, has gone to
Kingsport, the new Kast Tennessee
boom town, and is now manager of
the Kingsporl News, a new weekly
paper Just launched at that place.
The News Is an eight page, six-col-
umn paper and full of local news, and
Is liberally patronized by advertisers.
Kingsporl has, within a few weeks,
.lumped from a small village to a.
town of 1,600 Inhabitants, and It is
claimed tlint the population will pro-
bably go to 10,000 within a year. A
Cortland cement plant with a capaci-
ty of it;,odd bags per day is In opera-
tion. an extract plant making 126
barrels of extract per day, a brick
plant making 100,000 high grade
brick per day, and an immense dye
plant now making and shipping dyes,
and will when completed cover "!! ac-
res of ground and employ 2,600 men.
together with a tile and sewer pipe
factory, a large tannery and a big pa-
per pulp mill are also in operation or
iu course of const melon.

plants which have been set out ma-
ture. A nice walk has been placed In
front of the building and other im-
