CATCH THE 8PEEDERS.
The regretable accident In which
Mr. and Mrs. Ben Brooks of Bagwell
■were injured last Sunday night on
4ke Paris road, adds another to the
long Hat of eccldents that have hup
pened on that road during the past
few months.
Since the passage of the law by the
last legislature compelling traffic
officers to wear uniforms and declar-
ing illegal any arrest made by an of
ficer from a "trap," speeders have
been In the hp.blt of "opening up" aft
«r getting beyond the city limits and
Jt is not at all uncommon for some of
them to make 50 and 60 miles an hour.
The statute provides that the coun-
ty roads shall be patrolled by men
appointed and paid by the commis-
sioners' court and must be paid a
fixed salary and not on a basis of fees
(or arrests. The life and limb of
careful, law abiding motorists are
jeapordized by the speed fiends and
lie believe the commissioners' court
would do well to appoint at least two
men to patrol the roads of this coun
ty.
Who Am I?
I have scattered bread crusts, tin
cans. Sunday supplements and paper
plates from the caves in southern Ore-
gon to" Mount Baker in northern
Washington.
I have hacked trees and left camp
fires burning from the California linj
;to the Canadian border.
I have hooked pears from a Medford
orchard and walnuts in the Willamette
"Valley.
I have rolled rocks In the sapphire
depths of Crater Lake and thrown tin
cans into Lake Chelan.
I have seen all, heard all, and in my
Weak way have managed to destroy
much.
I am the careless and thoughtless
jAmerican tourist.

"What Is"
Chicago la to have the largest and
tallest hotel In the world, but there
Is no assurance thus far that Its chefs
will know how to make potato soup.
Anyone who has been able to figure
out what the futurist painter Is driv-
ing at should experience no difficulty
to speuk of with a cross-word puzzle.
If as much time were given to pub-
lic affairs as is now devoted to cross-
word puzzles there would no longer
be any need of worrying ubout the fu-
ture.
Well, If a doctor Is right In his
warning to housewives that dusting
Is a menace to health, that seems to
be the handwriting on the top of the
piano.
It would be Just like the builders of
tlilb new i>uUujun cur designed espe-
cially for transportation of federal
prisoners to name It Utopia or Honey-
suckle.
For the Information of all whom It
may concern, a man In Denlson, Texas,
announces that he once cooked a crow
and that It looked and tasted like a
rubber pancake.
A woman appeared In c<rart to com-
plain against' a man who tried to kiss
her In a movie show. His defense
when he got a good look at her was
that It was dark.
lYou really cannot imag-
ine what a delicious drink
Orangeade can be until
you try one of our spec-
ials. Of course it is the
pure fruit juice, but its
the way we mix it.

The wave of conservatism now
sweeping the world 1ms reached Con-
stantinople. A newspaper there In-
forms Its readers that the average
American Is half-crazy;
Someone ashs a medical publicist:
"Is It necessary to go to bed with a
alight case of measles?" Well, a great
many sound sleepers have been get-
ting along without them.
It Is unjust to assert that no effi-
ciency expert ever accomplished any-
thing. One In Baltimore hus Just been
arrested for cabbaging $150,000 of the
Arm's fund In four years.
The United States Is suing an over-
seas soldier for $0 overpay during the
receut war. Government has to be
Just that mean sometimes. Wonder
what it does In such cases where the
soldier was killed?

CHAUTAUQUA OPENS
WITH HEADLINERS
First Two Daya Important.
Those who stay away from Chau-
tauqua. the opening day this year, be-
lieving the program to be unimport-
ant, are In for a big disappointment.
As a matter of fact, some of the
biggest features are on the first two
days.
On this occasion the famous Ca-
thedral Choir, composed of an ex-
traordinary company of singers, will
<<ive a program of rare beauty.
This great organization made a
continental tour last year, visiting
some of the largest cities of America.
At every place its concert was an
enthusiastic success.
Its second program is largely
popular and operatic in character. It
is given on the first night, and fol-
lowed by one of the humorous offer-
ings of the program. This is in the
nature of a lecture by Herbert Leon
Cope, the greatest humorist, it is said,
since Bill Nye.
With Burns of the Mountains the
second afternoon, and a great farce-
comedy, "GIVE AND TAKE," the
second eight, it must be seen very
readily that the first two days are of
great importance.
The only sensible way is to buy
season tickets of the local committee.
The cost of attending is less than
half what It would amount to If you
purchase single admission tickets.
Admissions run all the way from
fifty cents to one dollar for each en-
tertainment. Besides, season tickets
are transferable in the owner's fam-
ily, and the Chautauqua Committee
has a limited number for sale.
As you grow older, time seems to
pass more quickly. And as you begin
to think more seriously, you have a
better appreciation of the fact that,
generally speaking, you do not make
the best use of your time as ft trickles
thru the hour glass of the present
into the fathomless abyss of spent
days.
So now-today-we are taking this
opportunity to call your attention to
the fact that you have a chance to

Do
Y ou Know
?
-that the majority of housewives
wonder where to buy things?
-that they naturally resort to adver-
tisements to decide the question?
-that they will finally decide in favor
of the merchant whose name they
see most?
-and that the way to make most of
the housewives see your name most
is to advertise most all the time in
The Review?
