CHAPEL FOR OUR LADY NEARS COMPLETION
AFTER REVOLT
FR. MARTIN LUTHER
HELD CONFESSION AS
ESTADLISHED DY GOD
"There is no doubt that con-
fession is necessary, and esta-
blished by God." Thus wrote
Father Martin Luther, an Aug-
ustinlan monk of the Catholic
Church and founder of modern
Protestantism. This view of the
widely-known Catholic priest who
left the Church in 1517 to esta-
blish the visible Protestant
movement is highly significant,
for it is found In the writings of
Father Luther after his exit
from the Roman Catholic
Church.
The text of the statement fol-
lows:
"There is no doubt that con-
fession is necessary, and esta-
blished by God: but secret and
auricular confession, as practic-
ed at this day, in the church, es-
pecially pleases me. It is not*
merely useful. It Is necessary!
God forbid that I should wish
its abolition' I rejoice that it
exists in the Church becauses it
Is the only means to restore
peace to troubled consciences."

Jesus Christ, the Savior of the
world, laid down two conditions
for men to comply with If they
expected to attain the Kingdom
of Heaven. In these words the
Redeemer expressed 'bluntly
those two conditions: "He that
belleveth and Is baptised shall
be saved."
To reach the joys of Heaven
men may not believe 'what they
please. On the contrary they
must believe thOBe truths which
were taught by Jesus Christ, the
Son of God. -Of these truths none
so divides th-cse who really be-
lieve in Christ from those who
do not as that which caused long
ago some of Christ's own dis-
ciples to leave Him, namely.
'His declaration that men could
not have supernatural life for
their souls unless they eat of
His real Bcdy and drink of His
real Blood. This the Saviour
made abundantly clear when He
answered the objection of His
hearers, "How can this man give
us His flesh to eat?," with the
blunt words: "Unless you eat
the flesh of the Son of Man and
drink His Blood, you shall not
have life In you."
INVITED APOSTLES TO GO
The obvious meaning of the
.Redeemer's words was made
even more clear when Jesus re-
acted to the desertion of some
of His disciples by asking His
very ApoBtles If they also want-
ed to leave Him.
The time for the enuntlatlon
of this sacred truth was the day
after Josub had ted the 6,000
people on the five barley loaves
and two fishes. The place was
the synagogue of Capharnaum.
Ota that ocQaslon great multi-
tudes of the people who the day
before had seen Jesus demon-
strate His divine power In the
desert were present In the syna-
gogue to hear these unusual
words fall from the lips of the
Prince of Peace:
