is a well kuown fact that tho govern-
ment aud tlio roads have been plun-
dered by tlio director out of about
$76000. Ilia also a fact that nil this
moucy could bo recovered provided
tlio government took proper action
and it is now estimated that it intends
doing so and when tlio proper time
arrives Major Roddlngtoii tlio expert
will produco tho name of all who act-
ed as paymaster for Huntington and
Iiis agent Slieriil for services perform-
ed iu Washington. Tho testimo-
ny of Huntington boforo tho
l'acilio railroad commission in Now
York last April in tlio opinion of tin
ofllelals of tho department of justice
was sulliciont to warrant tlio indict-
ment of Huntington aud his associ-
ates for bribery by tho grand jury
of this district. It is learned on good
authority that steps wero takon by
tho department early in May to indict

was postponed at tho request of tho
Pacific railroad's commission and it

L's. sister. Llndsey went there to see

man caa bo convicted for selling beer or
whisky etc. Altogether our Sunday luws
nro growing weaker and weaker and will
bo very dead letters beforo long unions
soma sort ot a halt is culled. To remedy
existing troubles wo learn that Col. White-
head bus prepared and will oiler lo tlio
council to-night an ordinance amending tho
present city law to Unit It wilt conform to
tlio State statute and may bu enforced more
perfectly. Wo hear that tlio recorder ap-
proves of the chauge and that the chalices
ure in favor of Its strict enforcement.
