The Oi-d " States." On Sunday
evening tho hull of the good old
ship United States in which Deca-
tur captured tho Macedonian was
taken possession at tho navj 3-ard
by an efficient crew nnd towed down
to tho narrow part of tho channel a
mile below Fort Norfolk whoro sho
was moored across the channel and
sunk. Only a few feet brought her
in contact with tho bottom and the
naval forco that shall attempt to
pass up to our harbor must hold a
parley with tho old veteran till they
can pursuado her to stand a-ono-sido
; while in tho meantime tho
shot and shells from tho two forts
above ono on tho right nnd tho
other on tho left arc hammering
away with tho biggest sized shot
and shell. "While their arguments
will have little weight with tho old
ship they will have no more on the
forts than Demosthencse' pebbles
hud on tho roaring of tho sea.

' Much Needed. Among tho con-
templated Law Reforms of 1861 in
England is an Act enabling per-
sons to establish thoir own sanity
during thoir life time in order that
nller death they may not have
their wills disputed on tho grounds
that when they made them they
were out of their minds. Thero is
equal noed for such a law in our
own country.

THE THOROUGH-BRED HOUSE
KENTUCKIAN
WILL stand again the present season at
my stable 7 miles North of McKin-
ncy nnd tho price for the season for marcs
left with the horse will be $20. Marcs that
were bred to him last season and did not
prove in foul may bo bred this season grat-
is. The season will expire the 15th July
In offering this horse to the public I do
not have to trace his pedigree through a
long list of doubtful ancestry. His sire was
tho imported horse Jordan; his dam was
the imported mare Platina; both being of
the best stock of England which may be
seen by referring to his handbills.
This horse has proven himself a superior
breeder and as to nppeaarncc I think him
equal to any; but ns all horses are fine on
p.iper I wish gentlemen to see him and
judge for themselves.
