went out to moot her and .received from
Itttr sc mo seventeen bas of newspapers ami
dlm.10 or four bnis of letters which wove
token about tbecomnionccmctit of tho block-
ailo: Tho rnners aro of course worthless
and most of the loiters bad been opened.
Among the unopened lottors wo noticed
scvctnl having epecio in them nnd others
that had the appcarnnco of having valua-
ble contents. It would seem by llits that-
appropriating private funds was not Cap-
tain Aldcn's purpose in. opening the mail..
Wo wore surprised to find that a much
larger proportion of letters direotcd to la-
dies were opened than of th'oso directed
to gentlemen. There wore but .fore of the
letters for this dity from which wo con-
clude that Oapli Aldcn found il convenient
to keep most i f the letters to persons in
this city. Gal. Xewt.
By last Wednesday' 1 mail a package of
letters was received here which had under-
gone tho searching process of tho -blockade's.
Several of Iho letters were opened
and as mentioned by the Sews all that
were oponed wore directed to ladies.- Tlio
business lettar wero untouched. .
