The 1974 Annual Meeting of the Texas State Genealogical Society
will be held in Lufkin, Texas on November 29th and 30th. The Lufkin
Genealogical Society will host the meeting which will be held at the
Hotel Angelina, South 1st and Shepherd Avenue, Lufkin, Texas. Telephone
713/634-5555. Single rooms $8.00 - double $10.00. Make your reservations
early. John W. Wilkins, president of the Lufkin Society has extended
a cordial invitation for all of us to come visit them for a happy and
profitable time. The library is a short block from the hotel and houses
a growing genealogical collection, which is going to be one of the better
collections in the state. I know because I have been assisting them in
their selections.
Mrs. J. F. Reeves of Nacogdoches has been named Chairman of the
workshop committee and her daughter, Mrs. Joe Ericson is Co-Chairman.
Mrs. C. Raymond Ulmer of Houston, Mrs. J. B. Golden and Mrs. Ralph A.
Bickler of Austin along with Mr. Wilkins completes the members of the
committee.
I have attended many workshops put on by the Lufkin group and all
of them have been exceptional. If you want to learn how to put on a
better workshop for your society come and learn from them.
Some of you may know that I am the bibliographer and publisher of
THE MAGAZINE OF BIBLIOGRAPHIES which is being so well received in the
genealogical and historical field but I still could not believe a recent
request that we received from USSR offering to exchange our publication
with any of their over 50 literary and historical magazines. Especially
since this magazine has not been mailed abroad. Word does get around.
Your editor would very much appreciate contributions for STIRPES.
Don't be bashful about sending in manuscripts.
