and ratified. He declares he is forth-three years of age.
And in order that it may be certain, he sets forth these presents,
on which, because of not being able to write, he made a sign
of a cross; witnesses being Don Jose Luis de la Bega and Don Manuel
Bustaments of this neighborhood.

19 July 1809. John Beins, a native of the Province of Ulster,
in Ireland, where I became a soldier in the English Army in the
year 1775, and 1777 he becaue a prisoner of war of the American
Army, and from it he went to the Post of Opelousas in the year 1799,
in which post he was for a period of four years occupying himself
in the work of a farmer, and from said post, in the year 1803, he
came to this village of Nacogdoches, to take up his residence at
the house and ranch of the Senores traders of the Indian Nations,
Don William Barr and Don Samuel Davenport, continuing to support
himself in his occupation of farmer until the present time, his
station is unmarried, and of the Apostolic Roman Catholic religion.
He says he has no document to add to this his statement, and that
all that is explained is the truth, on which it is affirmed and
ratified. He declares he is of the age of fifty years, and in
order that it be certain he extends these presents, on which, because
of not knowing how to write, he made a sign of a cross, and
being witnesses of all, the said Don William 8ar rand Don Manuel
Bustamente, citizens of this place.

24 July 1809. Michel Rambin, a native of the Post of Natchitoches,
of that of Louisiana, from whence I left eight years ago
with my wife, Marie Theresa Ignacia Mayo, with three sons, the first
of the age of fourteen years, the second dead, and the third of ten
years, and the others that have been born in this place, the first
of seven years, the second of five years, and the third of three
years, and the last of five months; and these, as well as my wife
and I are of the Apostolic Roman Catholic religion; and we have
always followed the Spanish flag, and we have not subjected ourselves
to anyone but the Judges of Nacogdoches, to what they have ordered;
and having my home, I followed the occupation of farmer, with
which I supported my family; and not having any other document with
me, I extend the present, on which I made a sign of a cross in presence
of Don Pierre Dolet and Luis Procela in Bayou Pierre on the
24th of July 1809.
