2a-William Mebane, Jr., b. 1728, Pa., came to N. C., and settled for a short
time in what is now Orange Co., then moved to Rowan Co. He married Mary
Nelson, dau. of Samuel Nelson, one of the Hawfield Nelsons who had moved
to Rowan Co. William Mebane, Jr. was one of the first persons to be
buried in the old Alamance Cemetery in Guliford Co. His tombstone shows
he was born in 1728 and died in 1744.
