Owing to the rush it was not possible
to receive all the people at the opening
of the Curtis studio in the Mills' block
opposite Sheldon hotel to we will be
better prepared to attend all to visitors
tomorrow at the hours named on in-
vitations. A Correction
Editor Herald: In your paper of
yesterday it is stated tbat the police
are endeavoring to obtain information
concerning the soldiers from a woman
at 374 Santa Fe street but at present
the house -is quarantined because of
scarlet fever.
I hope you will be kind enough to
correct the mistake. I do not know
Dyson nor have I ever been to Dunn's
road house with soldiers nor any one
else.
Your informant has caused you to
do mean injustice.

WANT CITY'S HELP
Destitute And Injured Persons Ap-
plying To the Mayor For Aid In
Large Numbers '
The other day a blind beggar ap-
plied to Mavor Maeroffin for trans-
portation to Fort Worth. The man
had both ban 8 injured and was ap-
parently totally blind. He claimed to
have been injured in the mines and
had a young cegro lead him around
town.
The mayor when applied to Informed
him thai If be could raise the money
among the citizens the city would se-
cure him a half rate ticket costing
about $11. The man replied tbat it
was impossible for him to raise that
much money and went away grumbling-.
He said that he came here from Albu-
querque shipped here by that city as
a present no doubt to El Paso.
This kind of ca-es appears at the
city hall nearly every day and some-
times several In one day. They ap-
peared to be shipped to El Paso from
every point of the compass.
One man claiming to be deaf and
dumb who applied a few days ago is
reported to have since been noticed
dropping a nickel into a music box in a
sa'o n and listening to the music.
The majority of those cases seems how-
ever to he real cases of want and many
are deserving.
Tbisnrormng a boy apparently about
eighteen years old applied for admis-
sion to the hospital saying he was sick
and destitute. He was told to cet a
certificate from the city health officer.

THE FORTNIGHTLY CLUB.
The March Dances End the Sea-
son. The Fortnightly club pave its regular
social dance at the K. P. ball last
evening. There were some twelve
couples present all of whom had a
most enjoyable time. The dance con-
tinued until 12 o'clock.
The sand storm that was raging out-
side and that kept many people away
was an accompaniment of the peculiar
meteorological conditions that made
possible the transmission of slight
electric shocks among the dancers.
The air being highly charged with
electricity and the carpet being
covered for the occasion with a tightly
stretched canvas to dance on the
electric phenomena were noticed by
all the dancers especially in the qua-
drilles. The two next dances which will
come on the second and fourth Mon-
days in March will conclude the re-
gular social season of the club.
