the hardest snowstorm and blizzard
of this winter. Tonight snow Is fall-

in all the prominent hotels and res-
taurants of the city and other exten-
sive preparations the celebration of
New Yenr's eve this year will be gay-
er and upon a larger scale than ever
before. As rfew Year's eve falls
upon a Sunday this year the charac-
ter of the celebration will undotuted-
ly be somewhat less bolsteron and
jlie Honing law will be enforced as
much as possible against saloons but
the streets of Manhattan will b
crowded as ever on New Year's eve
and the noise Just as deafening. The
hotels and restaurants In the central
district are not affected by the clos-
ing rule and will be the scene f un-
usually gay and fertlve social gath-

program for the customary observ-
ance of New Yenr's Day by the
President and the official circles of
the Capital in general indicates that
traditions will be closely adhered to
next Monday when the new year
will be officially ushered In. Tho
President and Mrs. Taft will hold
their reception in the forenoon be-
ginning with the reception ot the
member of the Cabinet. These will
be followed by the member of the
Diplomatic Corps. As there have
been numerous important changes In
he Diplomatic Corps since the last
New Year's Day reception the num-
ber of new faces at Monday's recep-
tlon will be one of the notable fea-
tures of the day.
After the diplomatic reception will
follow receptions to the menilers of
the Justices of the Supreme Court
the District Judiciary. Congress. Ar-
my and Navr and various district
officials. Many members of tbe Cab-
inet will keep open houses.

As the will now stands the Cath-

dren and Fannie Jackson "daughter
of my friend Marv Luna." as the

Jackson died a week ago Friday.
It is sild that some of the strong-
est legal talent In Texas will appear
before County Judge Rriant of Son-
ora February 19 In an effort to break
the will The document will be filed
then. Relatives will claim that Jack-
son wag delirious and not In his right
mind when he made the will.
He dictated the will while he lay
on his death bed In a San Angelo
hospital a few days before he died.
He Joined the Catholic church only

House Democrats plan to eliminate
from the next sundry civil appropria-
tion bill the $223000 (or the pres-
ident's tariff board $75000 appro-
priation for the economy commission
and $25000 for the president's trav
eling expenses.
Democratic members of the appro-
priation committee are unanimously
In favor of the elimination plan and
believe that by cutting out these ex-
penditures all of which are under
the approval of the president they
will meet the approval of the ma-
jority of the party" in the house. The
house democrats have an economy
plan of their own and declare that
the economy commission waste both
time and money.
It is stated that the Democrats feel
(that the $25000 annual traveling
expenses are used against the Dem-
ocratic party and for that reason
they propose to cut It off from th
general list of federal appropTia'lons.
