Those small white objects in the foreground are not dice. They are sea shells, props in the ancient
ritual being performed by Prince Modoupe-Paris, Nigerian baritone. He's purifying the balcony
of the San Francisco hotel where he'll sleep under the stars, on the ccnturv-old sleeping carpet
seen in photo. Assisting him are members o£ his company, who work with him in presenting
authentic Nigerian folk songs to American audiences.

Chart above, prepared from American Iron and Steel Institute data, shows how weekly production
of steel is climbing back, in 1947, from the lows it hit in 1946, when strikes and other disputes held
it to only 72.5 per cent of annual capacity. During wartime months of 1945, operations averaged
C3.5 per ccnt of capacity. Today's potential finished steel for peacetime uses is almost 10 per cent
larger than in 1941.
