The definition of a Commercial
Organization, is a body around
which everything for the mutual
upbuilding of a town or a com-
munity rotates.
Hon. Geo. A. Bell of Mexia wan
a visitor in the city Monday and
paid this office an appreciated
visit. Mr. Bell informed us that
at was his intention to offer for
County Attorney in the 1912
election.—Groesbeck Journal.
In the presence of the leading
citiwns of Waxahachie, Wednes-
day afternoon, President Horn-
beak of Trinity University, took
off his coat, rolled up his sleeves,
and spanded up the first shovel
of dirt for the foundation off the
new dormitory for girls that is
to be erected at Trinity Univer-
sity. The structure is to cost
over fifty thousand dollars and
will be one of tihe handsomest
boarding halls in Texas. Money
for the building was subscribed
by the citizens of Waxahachie,
and the structure will be rushed
to early completion. Texas is in-
cyoneinm Her educational facili-
ties every year and we are secur-
ing each year a large number of
students who formerly were sent
to the schools of the North and
East.

SCHOLARSHIP
A Commercial Organization is
in truth and in fact a business
proposition. The time has been|
when commercial organizations
were looked upon as matters of
charity, and ornament. Organi-
zations of this kind are practical-
ly obsolete now and should pass
away without delay.

Washington, August 14.—A bil
requiring that decisions by the
supreme court of the United
States on questions affecting the
"constitutionality of any provis-
ion of a Federal or State law
must, be unanimous," was intro-
duced today by Senator Bourne
of Oregon. It was attacked by
Senator Ueyburn of Idaho as an
"oddity" or "fad" of the day
which attempts to increase the
! i>ower of minorities.
Senator Bourne explained that
his bill was designed to prevent
a bare majority of the court fron
overruling the desire of congress
and the people.
Senator Hey burn objected to a
second reading of the ball, thus
defeating its being referred to
the judiciary committee, as Sena-
tor Bourne requested.
The Anti-Bailey papers are
working over time in attempt-
ing to prove the downfall of the
Senator as a representative of
the people as well as in public
estimation. The very fact that
they continue to "knock" on
him is proof conclsive that he
has lost none of his prestage and
his influence, instead of Waning,
is growing.—Groesbeck Journal.

Periodical Commercial Clubs
are like wet. weather springs.
During the rainy season they
run, but in dry weather they
rest. The town with this kind of
organization will move along in
the even tenor of its way, wait-
ing for something to turn up.
When something comes its way,
a big rush is made, mass-meeting*
called, and everybody gets busy.
As a rule by the time the machin
ery is put in motion the oppor-
tunity has passed on, and the
"wise" citizen settles down to
whittling on goods boxes to ex-
plain why the town lost out. It
makes one think of the blotter—
as a rule you can never find it
until the ink gets dry.
n- -
The newspapers are the most
valuable medium for exploiting
the resources of a city. The lo-
cal newspaper is a good index to
the progress and enterprise of a
town, and space in such a paper
is the instrument which wil/
bring sure results. A da£e line
from any town in -any of the
great weeklies, dailies or maga-
zines is worth while, and the
more a town gets, the better.
All newspapers of this class are
anxious to get industrial items,
as well as other live items, and
it is very necessary that the
towns have alert and practical
newspaper correspondents to the
great dailies, as well as contrib-
utors to the trade and industrial
journals.

ADVERTISING TEXAS
IN PANAMA
A request has been received by
the Texas Commercia Secretaries
& Business Mens' Association
from Panama for a supply of
literature on Texas resources.
The request comes from Mr. J.
C. Forman of Texas who is now
a resident of Panama. Mr. For-
man who is employed by the
Government on the canal work
accidentally came across a book-
let on Texas issued by the Com-
mercial Secretaries and straight-
way wrote the A.sse>ciation ask-
ing for a supply of literature to
be distributed in the Canal Zone.
While pleased with the conditions
in Panama, Mr. Forman has a
warm spot in his heart for Texas
and plans to return on the com-
pletion of the big ditch.
