The Dependent Youth Association (DYA)
Summer Camp is accepting enrollment of
children ages 6-12 for this year’s summer
line up of fun.
The DYA Summer Day Camp located at
Camp Finlayson West Ft. Hood lasts eight
weeks and operates from 9 a.m. until 2:30
p.m. Monday-Friday. Refreshments are
provided but each child must bring his own
sack lunch.
THE EIGHT WEEK program is broken
down into four two-week sessions at a cost
of $5 per session. Each session is geared
toward a theme.
July 10-21 is Pirate and Ecology weeks
July 24-August 4 is Wild West and Jungle
Safari weeks and August 7-18 will be It’s a
Small World and Outer Space weeks.
Since there is a vast number of partici-
pants 250 per session the children are
divided into groups of ten. Each group is
lead by Special Duty military personnel.
There are instructors in special areas
such as Arts and Crafts Sports Music/-
Drama and Ecology. The instructors rotate
to each of these groups on schedule.
Two soldiers from the 11th Med. Bn. are
also available with first-aid supplies for
even the smallest of scrapes and scratches
a child might get.
While visiting the camp during the first
two-week session Circus and Hobo weeks
the children were asked how they really
liked the camp.
“SURE IT’S LOTS of fun” “I like play-
ing with the water ballons” and “I have
more fun with the hula hoops” were just a
few of the replies.
The games played range from a frisbee
throw to an obstacle course race. Old
favorites like soccer football slap-clap
games and specialties like Mexican Bingo
are also played.
A variety of supplies are needed for the
Arts and Crafts sessions providing an ex-
cellent opportunity to put to use some of the
odds and ends that would otherwise clutter
up the house.
The following items will be needed and
can be brought in anytime during the
Daycamp session.
Empty paper towel and toilet paper
rolls old empty bleach bottles milk
cartons liquid detergent bottles old
