Brigade ’75 soldiers and families PCSing
to Germany will find brand new living
quarters and facilities waiting for them.
Construction of housing and post facilities
is going according to schedule and should
be* completed in time for movement of the
first brigade elements and their families in
late fall.
The 2nd Armd. Div. (Forward) will be
headquartered at Garlstedt with the fami-
ly housing located in the nearby town of
Osterholz-Scharmbeck. To help make
things more convenient for the soldiers and
their dependents there will be contract bus
services available between Osterholz-
Scharmbeck Garlstedt and Bremerhaven.
THERE WILL BE 1027 family housing
units and an elementary and high school in
Osterholz-Scharmbeck. All the American
family housing areas are within a one-mile
\fralking distance of the school complex.
The family housing is being constructed to
blend in with the surrounding German
community. There are six American fami-
ly housing areas under construction con-
sisting of 12 duplex sets of quarters a
number of row houses with three and four
bedrooms and several three and four story
apartment type constructions having two
three and four bedrooms.
Each housing area will be complete with
a playground and laundry facilities (one
washer and dryer per every two families).
All housing units will be furnished with
standard items of furniture.
Families may want to take a few pieces
of furniture and decorations that can go a
long way in making your quarters “home”.
This is especially true with children.

Heavy summer travel
problem fo TDYs
The normal summer increase in tourist travel and the
prolonged strike by Northwest Airlines the only American
flag carrier serving Korea has caused serious problems in
the availability of air service to support TDY passengers.
At the present time all foreign flag carriers serving Korea
are booked well in advance. It is almost impossible to ob-
tain reservations from Korea to Hawaii Japan or CONUS
with less than three weeks notice.
Personnel expecting to visit this command on TDY for
less than 30 days should not depart home station until
round trip travel arrangements have been confirmed. All
return reservations should be reconfirmed immediately
upon arrival in Korea. Official travelers desiring as-
sistance should contact the Passenger Travel Office 25th
Transportation Cen. at 293-8091/8092.

Consideration should also be given to unac-
compained baggage and the time between
arriving in Germany and arrival of
household goods. As a suggestion ship
linens blankets pans and dishes and
silverware.
IN BREMENHAVEN the Army Com-
munity Services will be ready to serve in
any way they can. The ACS has a loan
closet which loans necessary household
items to new arrivals a referral and in-
formation service which can assist with
babysitting information of cultural places
of interest a hospitality section budget
counseling and a sewing room with sewing
machines and instructions available. A
community service center is under con-
struction at Garlstedt and scheduled for
completion in mid-summer 1979.
The 14 barracks units at the 300 acre
kaserne in Garlstedt have been described
as the most modern troop facilities in the
Army. Designed for three men to a room
each with its own bathroom the barracks
will also feature a common kitchen on each
floor. Each barracks will have a 200 to
280-man capacity.
The post will be complete with a gym-
nasium with an indoor swimming pool

tions for housing. From the applications
the housing team determined the number
of soldiers who qualify for quarters and the
type of quarters they need. The housing
team then placed the families accordingly.
The mission of the housing team goes
beyond placing soldiers and their families
in post quarters. They also help find
quarters off post for those soldiers who do
not qualify for quarters on post. This in-
cludes single soldiers who do not wish to
live in the barracks.
