Though gasoline prices are high you
can get more mileage for your money
if you follow these tips:
USE THE air conditioner. When
operating at interstate speeds (or
anything over 35 mph) air condition-
ing actually can improve your car’s
gas mileage. Open windows produce
added drag.
Don’t race the engine. Besides
wasting fuel this practice can dam-
age an engine if its oil is sluggish and
has yet to circulate among the vital
engine parts to protect them from
wear.
Tune up the engine regularly. A
properly-tuned and maintained en-
gine gives better mileage and per-
formance.
Cut down on engine idling. Shut
off the engine instead of letting it run
at railroad crossings drive-in banks
and in traffic jams.
Keep the tire pressure up to par.
Too little air in a tire causes extra
drag and thereby wastes gas. Not
only does an under-inflated tire in-
crease tread wear it also can cause
steering problems.
Maintain a constant speed. Fre-
quent slowing down and speeding up
increase fuel consumption.
Avoid sudden starts and stops.
You’ll save gas and wear on brakes
and tires by coasting to stops.
Don’t store heavy items in the
car. The increased weight requires
extra gas to keep it moving.
Obey the 55 mph speed limit.
This is devised not just for safety but
also for holding back gas consump-
tion.
Take extra car in planning your
$ummer trips. Remember that use of
an up-to-date map can help you avoid
costly re-routing.

1st Med. Gp„ 13th SUPCOM: It’s
about time a woman got on the
Supreme Court. Her ideas seem
really good and her background
is pretty impressive. I can’t wait
to see a woman president be-
cause I think a woman can do just
as good a job if not better.

What is your opinion about Sandra O’Conner being nominated as a justice on the Supreme Court?
Sp5 obert Lusby HHC
142nd Sig. Bn. 2nd Arm. Div.: I
thin it’ll give the S uprem
Court a wider view for decisions.
It’s a good idea. She might bring
in a lot of new ideas and shed a
new light on some subjects. The
other fact that I like about her is
that she’s fairly young and that
ig be lp fu in ertain
issues. I feel if she can handle the
job and excels all the power to
her. If she can’t get her out. Her
sex has nothing to do with it.
Apparently she’s very qualified
for the job or else she wouldn’t
have been nominated.
4
Sgt. Raymond Edwards A
Co. 13th Sig. Bn. 1st Cav. Div.: I
heard that she was nominated
and that’s okay with me. As far as
her background I’m not really
aware of it. If she meets the re-
quirements that’s right on.

PFC Michael Dennis Bat.
1/78 FA 2nd Armd. Div.: I think a
woman should be on the Sup-
reme Court. There’s never been
one before but now is definitely
the tim e.1 nfortunately I ha-
ven’t heard any of her ideas but I
hear she’s qualified.

think it’ll be a change. It doesn’t
hurt to experiment. Just from her
credentials I think she’ll be all
right. I say “Give her a chance.”

Capt. Steven Stinger OIC

think she’s a very capable indi-
vidual and probably will do an
outstanding job on the Supreme
Court. Actually I’m against abor-

with the lady.
