JOSEPHINE LINN
1895-1955
Josephine Linn was born in Victoria, Texas, March 17, 1895, and died in Orange, Texas,
December 7, 1955, at the age of 60 years, 9 months and 10 days. She was buried in Alpine,
Texas at the Linn Ranch where she had lived with her two sisters after the death of her parents.
Josephine Linn came to Orange in 1940. She taught English at Stark High School. In 1943,
Frank Colburn School, one of the Riverside schools, opened. She became principal and
remained there until her death in 1955.
She was a member of Texas State Teacher's Association of Childhood Education,
National Education, National Education Association and Parent Teacher Association, Easter Seal
Society, Pilot Club and Delta Kappa Gamma.
Miss Linn served on the State Textbook Committee for the selection of textbooks for the
state.
Josephine Linn often said, "Colburn School is the best school in the world. Colburn kids
are the best, my dear little teachers are the greatest, and the parents are the finest!" She believed
that all children could learn and teachers were to find the best way to teach each individual child.
This Bibliography would not be complete without sharing what the teachers thought about
Miss Linn - as follows -
Great rapport with children
Her understanding of children was the greatest
She had firmness with laughter
She was deeply concerned with each and every child
She was very aggressive - promoting the best activities for all children
She never gave up on any child
Colburn teachers were grateful that the Orange County Community Service Council chose
to give the Josephine Linn Award, and if Josephine Linn were here today she would say - It was
because of Colburn School, Colburn Kids, Parents and my dear little Teachers.
Josephine Linn was truly a GREAT EDUCATOR!

Colburn Teacher, 1944-195643
