Williams, Dr. George Hoffman, Grady Johnson, Emmanuel Taylor and Daniel Jackson,

Sarah J. Sweet, 88, of Orange, Texas died on January 7, 2009 after a short illness at the
Meadows Nursing Facility in Orange. Mrs. Sweet was a resident of Orange for many
years. She was a faithful member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Orange. Funeral
services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Colonial Memorial Chapel located at 1512 10th
Street in Orange with Pastor Joseph Robertson officiating. Interment will follow at
Hollywood Cemetery under the direction of Colonial Memorial Chapel. She is survived
by four sons, Arthur Sweet of Baton Rouge, LA; Levi Sweet of Ruston, LA; Lavender
Sweet and Johnny Sweet both of Orange, TX. Five daughters, Jeannie Warnell, Rosie
Solomon, Josie Anderson, Ida Bell and Essis Pott all of Orange, TX. One sister, Mary
Kathrine Neal of Detroit, MI. She also leaves behind 18 grandchildren and 30 great
grandchildren.

Elaine Padgett, 69, died on January 11, 2009, at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont. Funeral
service will be on Thursday, January 15, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at the Claybar Funeral Home
Bridge City Chapel. Rev. Killian will officiate. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial
Gardens near Bridge City. Mrs. Padgett was born on March 9, 1939, in Crowley, LA, to
Felix and Ida Belle Spell Landry. She was a homemaker and known for her cooking.
She was affectionately known by her friends and family as the Martha Stewart of the
South. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband of 51
years, Larry Padgett of Bridge City; her daughter; Tammy Wilson and husband Kenney
of Little Cypress and her son, Chris Padgett and his wife Susal of Monroe, NY, three
grandchildren ; one great grandchild and one brother, Dwight Landry and wife Sharon of
Seattle, WA.

Sandy Jackson Parkhurst, 74, of Orange, died on January 13, 2009 at Christus St.
Elizabeth in Beaumont. Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 16, 2009, at the
Wesley United Methodist Church in Orange. Rev. Randall R. Branch, pastor of Wesley
United Methodist Church will officiate. Entombment will follow at the Disciple
Mausoleum at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens near Bridge City. Services are under the
direction of Claybar Funeral Home of Orange. Mrs. Parkhurst was born on February 17,
1934, in Shelby County, TX to Charles "Charlie" and Kate Goodson Jackson. She
worked as a legal secretary for many years with the Sexton Law Firm in Orange and
retired as a court reporter from Jefferson County. She was a 1949 graduate of Stark High
School and a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Orange.She was
preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Olan Jackson and Butch Jackson; her
sisters, lone Wood, Gay Nell Moore, and Barbara June McGill. She is survived by her
loving husband; James Parkhurst of Orange; her children, James Parkhurst, Jr. and his
wife Linda of North Carolina, John Robert Parkhurst of Beaumont, Toni Day and her
husband Kenneth of Orange, Lisa Haynes and her husband David of Bridge City, Nancy
Johnston and her husband Tony of Garland, and Blakey Parkhurst of Orange. She is also37
