Saturday Troops which are not spon-
sored by churches will develop such
plans as are consistent with the reli-
gious policy of Scouting.
The Protestant, Catholic and Jew-
ish Committees in Scouting have made
suggestions for the celebration of this
day, which are available for local use,
through the National Office.
Tentative plans are under way for
a National Broadcast on this day which
which will be of unusual interest.
School Celebrations-—Tuesday,
February 9 Suggested
It will be a fine thing if grade
schools and high schools throughout
the country as a general practice can
set apart an assembly program during
the week—preferably on February 9,
for a special recognition of Boy Scout
Week. Here are some suggestions for
such celebrations
Flag raising ceremony conducted by
Scout Color Guard.
Special recognition of Scout Safety
Patrols.
Exhibits of Scoutcraft on the stage,
involving the Merit Badge Exhibits.
Unveiling of a permanent "museum
of Scouting" for nature collections,
etc.
Dramatization of Scout practices
such as trailing, map-making, lashing
and rope work, pioneer construction,
cooking, etc.
Acceptance of gift of a Scout Li-
brary for the school, including funda-
mental Handbooks, Merit Badge and
Service Libraries.
Dramatization of a story from
BOYS' LIFE.
Episodes drawn from Dr Cramp-
ton's "Keeping Physically Fit" page
in BOYS' LIFE.
Brief talks on their Scout experi-
ences by captains of high school teams,
officers of classes and student organiza-
tions.
Brief message from Scoutmaster
Skipper, Commissioner or Executive.
Anniversary Hikes
It has been suggested that these be
arranged for Lincoln's Birthday, Feb-
ruary 12, or Saturday, February 13th.
Various ideas have been advanced for
these out-of-door activities — among
them :■—
An Old-Timers Camp Fire
Father and Son Hikes.
Winter Sports Day including such
events as—
Dog and sledge race (Scouts
"subbing" for the dogs)
"Snow Swimming" race—(Scouts
"swimming" over the snow on
their sleds)
and of course the standard
events of skiing, skating, etc.
Planting of "Troop Oaks"—where
weather permits.
Pine Tree and Yucca Patrol Dem-
onstrations.
Winter Camporees.
Pilgrimages to local historic shrines.
Participation in Program of Service
Clubs and Civic Bodies
This is a growing practice. Give
consideration to the use of other fea-
tures in addition to talks on Scouting
by adults—such as
A dramatic Tenderfoot Investiture
Ceremony
A pathfindmg demonstration — il
lustrating intimate knowledge of
the community by Scouts.
A demonstration of correct Flag his-
tory and display
First Aid problems.
Humorous "Scout vs Service Club"
contests in hand wrestling, etc.
A brief message from a well pre-
pared Eagle Scout.
The Anniversary Good Turn
Whether on a Troop or Council
basis—or whether performed by an
isolated Patrol—this is an important
feature of our whole celebration. The
pamphlet entitled Celebrating Anni-
versary Week has a fine list of Good
Turn suggestions under the following
heads
To the Community
To Churches
To Schools
To Homes
To Clubs and other Institutions.
Miscellaneous Promotional Activities
We have space simply to list for
your checking certain possibilities for
promoting general interest in Scouting
during Boy Scout Week.
Wear the Uniform During the
Week—correctly and neatly
Place Scout Week Posters—in con-
spicuous places.
Decorate Store Windows—see De-
cember SCOUTING
Give Demonstrations in public
places—
Develop Press Cooperation—in use
of cartoons and photos—for which
mats are available, and in feature
articles.
Use "Movie Trailer"—in local
theatres.
Develop Radio Program—with local
stations cooperating — program
material is available.
Use Boy Scout Week Scout Stickers
—on mail
Secure Proclamations by Mayors
and local government officials.
Arrange for general display of Amer-
ican Flag on February 8th.
