FIRST WEEK
THIRD WEEK
READ THIS FIRST
Or the Program Pages Will Not
Mean Much to You
In our efforts to make the Program
Pages as practical and useful as
possible, we are offering three
skills, — mapping, cooking and
swimming for June. It is our
thought that if one of these appeals
to you, you will "follow through"
on that skill throughout the month,
and consequently teach it more
comprehensively and completely.
If you choose map making for
example, during the first week
teach the use of the compass. In the
second week start mapping by mak-
ing a plane table and alidade. At
the third meeting make a "stride
scale" and start the field sketch,
and at the fourth meeting finish the
map.
There is a sufficiently complete
description in the accompanying
articles to enable you to carry out
any of the skills through elemen-
tary to advanced projects.
All of these program suggestions
are for outdoor activities. We as-
sume that by June your Troop has
locked the door of the Troop meet-
ing room and moved outdoors
where Scouting is at its best.
THERE'S MORE!
ITot all the good program mate-
11 rial is contained in the Program
Section. "Lick 'Em & Live" this
month is full of excellent program
ideas. The article on unrationed
food (page 25) is full of practical
advice (although one Commissioner
said to Mr. Clark after reading the
manuscript: "But Mr. Clarke, the
boys would have to cook if we used
those menus!)
